A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

In case your eye-rolling muscles need a workout - AFI's 10 Greatest Films in 10 Greatest Genres lists. Be amazed at their staggering banality!
Genndy is now working on a Dark Crystal sequel for Henson.

(please don't let them fuck it up)
Be amazed at their staggering banality!
Amazing. But the genre descriptions are fun, in a completely "what kind of crack are you smoking again?" way.
(Bets on how long it takes to become one of those hideous formatting-dependent LJ see-how-smart-I-am memes?)
Mostly I was amazed that they had "animation" and "epic" as genres. @@
ETA: I've watched about half the show. Even within the banality that was these lists, The Lion King at #4? Seriously?
I liked how they tried not to define "epic" as "this movie is really long" but kind of did anyway.
But the genre descriptions are fun
Those are my favorite part!
AFI defines "mystery" as a genre that revolves around the solution of a crime
as opposed to:
AFI defines "courtroom drama" as a genre of film in which a system of justice plays a critical role in the film's narrative.
Or the very best:
AFI defines "romantic comedy" as a genre in which the development of a romance leads to comic situations.
I liked that organized crime only happened in the 20th century.
The fantasy list was the best, with It's a Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street both on there.
