Does that mean Del Toro gets the $5 mil for staying home?
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Got a fair amount of applause--all the big fight scenes got it
This is something I really miss about seeing movies in LA. I don't know if the audience applauds for movies in other cities, but they don't here. (Except for LOTR movies)
Some theaters, like Union Station, are fun because there's a ton of audience feedback and interaction, but it's not the same kind of appreciation for the art.
The Dark is Rising is dead to me. It's clearly going to be one of those movie adaptations that I will have to forcibly redact from my reality (along with the SciFi Earthsea and Demi Moore's Scarlet Letter)

Yes. This. The only thing that might remotely tempt me to see it would be the casting of Christopher Eccleston, but I don't think that'll be enough.
I'm in the middle of watching The Prestige for the first time. I have to ask this question: Are nested flashbacks ever a good idea?
Maybe in "Out of Gas"?
We saw Fantastic 4: Silver Surfer last night at the cheapie theater, and I will say that it was definitely worth $3. Had a different actress been cast as Sue Storm, I would have *loved* it. But I have no use for Jessica Alba. None. Reed Richards had more chemistry with Victor von Doom than with Sue Storm.
Sue Storm's death was almost as satisfying as Sofia Coppola's in Godfather 3. Fucking Silver Surfer had to bring her back, though. (Sue Storm, that is. Not Sofia Coppola. I don't think; I kind of dozed off during Godfather 3, so it's possible that the Silver Surfer was in it and I didn't notice.)
Actually, I'm assuming that there's a ton of Reed Richards/Victor von Doom fic out there. As well as Human Torch/Thing fic, because they are SO life partners.
Julian McMahon was far better than the film deserved. And, despite how utterly suited he is to playing the villain, it struck me that *he* is the actor who seems best suited to play Batman. Apologies to Christian Bale, but Julian McMahon just *looks* like Bruce Wayne, and he could *definitely* pull off the creepy scary Dark Knight thing.

Oh, lordy...
Now I want this so very, very much

Right?!? I mean, Christian Bale kicked so much more ass than I expected in Batman Begins. He really was fantastic as early!Bruce/Batman. But as Batman gets even darker and freakier — well, Julian McMahon is *it.* I've never been able to mentally cast Batman, but I finally did.
(I still can't mentally cast Tim Drake, because lo, he is wily and indefinable.)

How about Seth Green circa 1998?

Indeed.
