Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

I adored 40-year-old Virgin, and laughed muchly.

I hated Shallow Hal, but I really love School of Rock.

I didn't think I'd like Shallow Hal, but I did. Loved School of Rock!

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

I don't think Shallow Hal was a good movie overall but I laughed out loud through much of it. What defines a good comedy? Does the story arc have to make sense if it makes you laugh?

Oh yeah, School of Rock.

I gots DVDs today! B&N is having a "buy 2, get 3rd free" sale this month, and combined with my discount card, I did pretty well. I got:

BSG S3
M Criterion Collection
West Side Story (collector's edition)
Music Man
Sound of Music
Meet Me in St. Louis
Cabaret
Untouchables
Richard III (Ian McKellen version)

Most of these are replacing VHS tapes--I still might get a few more (Divine Madness, Stop Making Sense, Holiday Inn, Speed, and Run Lola Run) to replace other tapes.

That's a nice haul. I took advantage of this sale too. I splurged and got the first 3 seasons of Doctor Who.

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

50 minutes into The Assassination of Jesse James and I am simultaneously bored, creeped out, and delighted by some of the cinemetography.

Casey Affleck certainly devlivers on the creepy, annoying, obsessively creepy, creepily sad, and just plain creepy.
