I don't remember my first R rated movie, but I do remember Poltergeist (another PG-13 precursor) scaring the beJesus out of me.

Mom wouldn't go see ET with us because she was sure the little alien would die at the end (just like any movie with a cute creature in it, according to Mom) and she hates to cry at movies.
So sister Meg and I went by ourselves and loved it so much we assured Mom ET lives and that she should come see it with us again.
But weepy Gertie is a powerful thing and even though Meg and I knew ET would be OK we started crying again too. Mom leaned over and angrily hissed, "I can't believe you girls lied to me!" We had to sobbingly assure her there was a happy ending coming.
I remember being scared sh*tless by It's Alive, which I sincerely hope was not R because according to IMDB it came out when I was 7. I saw Jaws not much later (I snuck into the student union and watched it with the big kids on movie night) and still think about sharks in the water to this day (even in freshwater lakes).
MM, it is a commonly accepted theory (um, in a manner of speaking) that the Nazca lines are for signaling fucking space aliens, which I always thought was vaguely awesome.

Yes, I suppose. And yet it seems more plausible, to me at least, that the lines were built for pleasing or appeasing the gods which may or may not have been fucking space aliens.
There's also an interesting theory that the lines were built to please the "Eye of God", i.e. a total solar eclipse. A series of total solar eclipses occured over Nazca approximately the same time that the lines were built.
There's also the possibility that they were for "labyrinth walking" a form of spiritual meditation practiced by Egyptians, Indians (from India) and other early pagans. Christianity later adopted it.

Which, WTF? I was 20. I hadn't looked 17 since I was 14. And anyhow, my team of three were half the freaking audience for it.
