Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Compassionately intolerant

Oh, my ever-lovin'.

After my comment about Highlander: The Source, I see this: 'Highlander' remake in the works at Summit.

Massive mixed feelings. Especially since the folks behind Iron Man are involved.

Can a franchise sooo-tainted be redeemed?

Let's find out!

Kiss me, my girl, before I'm sick.

I fell asleep accidentally in an early evening nap and dreamed I attended a screening of a new Uwe Boll flick.

WHHHHYYYY.

In the dream, there was a Q&A with the director afterward and I went up to him and ranted at him for 20 minutes for being a sorry excuse of a human being. I can't remember too much about the film, but it had some hideous racist bits in addition to being utter crap. And the thing is, I've never even had the dubious pleasure of watching an Uwe Boll movie thus far.

I don't know WTF my subconscious is trying to tell me here. *faceplam*

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

Seeing Iron Man gave me a hankering for more RDJ, so went out and got myself Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Not as awesome as I remember it being, but still plenty awesome and enjoyable and horrific. Whatever you do, though, do NOT listen to the commentary. Val, you are a dick.

What are some other good Robert Downey Jr. flicks? I want to see Zodiac, am scared of Fur. Actually, as much as I love the guy, I really haven't seen a whole lot of his work. I haven't seen Chaplin!

Um, maybe the better question is what should I avoid?

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

What are some other good Robert Downey Jr. flicks?

He's pretty great in Wonderboys, which has the added virtue of being about the secret lives of Iron Man and Spider-Man in the publishing industry.

You can't leave me to my own devices; my devices are Nap and Eat. -Zenkitty

Seconding Wonderboys, and strongly recommending Chaplin and Soapdish for further great RDJ films.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

Definitely see Soapdish if you haven't. That's a hilarious film.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

I love HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS for RDJ, but I may be an exception.
