Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
Interesting.

Of course, Frank, the movie The Man Who Laughed (with that same plot element) was the inspiration for The Joker.
Okay, according to Joss at CC, Goners is not as free floating as I thought. Hurray. He's also written a horror film with Goddard called CABIN IN THE WOODS.
Heath Ledger is the Joker? Huh.
Get this, Megan: they passed on Crispin Glover to cast him.
See, I had the exact opposite reaction. I saw the trailer and I thought, "Wow, McShane will appear in all kinds of crap." It didn't help that they showed a few trailers for "ordinary boy discovers extraordinary powers/object" movies in a row, but i was not impressed.
Sue is me in this regard. Take towheaded Home Improvement-esque stage brat, mix in equal parts pretentious messianic destiny, cliched lines, and flashy CGI effects, stir, and allow to ferment on screen.
