Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

It breaks my heart that people are coming to see that one and the effing Chipmunks in droves but Walk Hard and Charlie Wilson's War are running with fewer than 15 people in the audience. Stupid consumers.

Now tagless for your comfort.

What is up with Jason Lee and the stupid animated animal films? I thought he'd sunk to a new low with Underdog but Alvin and the Chipmunks? WTF?

We're ambivalent about Walk Hard but some of the trailers look so awesome. I also want to see Charlie Wilson's War.

I've heard rumors that Jason Lee might have some habits to support. Or hey, maybe he cleaned up his act and has a kid now or something. Seems like the most common reason for actors starting to do crappy kids movies is because they have kids.

That or habits. Or contractual obligations.

Well, count me among the stupid consumers because you'd have to knock me out and drag me into the theater to get me to sit through either of the latter movies.

ETA: Have you seen how much vitamins cost these days, Sean?

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

I think Jason Lee does have kids.

What is it that turns you off about Walk Hard and Charlie Wilson, Matt?

I know my own heart and understand my fellow man. But I am made unlike anyone I have ever met. I dare to say I am like no one in the whole world. - Anne Lister

I am Matt. Walk Hard looks excruciatingly stupid and Charlie Wilson stars Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts, two of my most hated. I am totally not the typical movie goer though. I am an indie movie snob for the most part (AIFG).

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I'm not an indie movie snob in any way, but I share GC's aversions to those two movies.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

I guess I'm just a sucker for John C. Reilly. Especially when he sings.

I'd prefer it if Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts weren't the stars of Charlie Wilson but the story fascinates me and I was completely enthralled by the trailer.

Now I haven't actually seen either picture so I will come back with my tail between my legs once I have if they turn out to suck.

You can't go wrong with Enchanted.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Jessica Simpson’s new movie Blonde Ambition was released on 8 screens this weekend in Jessica’s home state of Texas, before it gets dumped on DVD next month (January 22nd 2008 to be exact). /Film correspondent Steve Mason sent us this hilarious report:

...

Blonde Ambition averaged $48 per screen on Friday for a total box office of $384. Based on an $8 ticket price, that means that 6 people paid to see the movie at each of those theatres, and only 48 people went to see the movie! That’s amazing! One of the worst performances a movie has ever had.

I am projecting that Jessica’s “star vehicle” will gross just $1,190 this weekend or $149 per location.

Tom Hanks doing a bad fake accent. Ptui.
