It does make me fearful that if the two proposed movies make a billion or so for New Line, Peter Jackson's The Silmarillion won't be too far behind.

Yeah! I wasn't really into it for the first few episodes, but I ended up loving it and the characters more than I expected.
I wonder how many films the Silmarillion would make?
I'm already anticipating a two day EE Hobbit/LotR Pentology viewing!
I somehow missed the bit where it said that PJ isn't going to be directing the Hobbit.
