Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

"Fassssssssssssscinating, Captain!"

Now I'm picturing Spock and Bones doing a "two wild and crazy guys" routine.

Always Anti-fascist!

Poor foxes. They have to leave the planet to get birth control devices.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

Dark Knight leaked trailer--really crappy pirate quality. Officially it's supposed to be out next weekend.

It's out.

I'm not crazy about Heath Ledger sounding like he's channelling Nicholson, but for the most part? The trailer makes me very very very happy.

And how funny is it that Nestor Carbonell is playing the Mayor? (Or, really, is playing any role in a Batman movie?)

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I've heard that Heath is mostly the anti-Nicholson. Maybe further footage will play that out.

Yeah, I'm trying to not make a snap judgment based on a 2-minute clip, but still, the comparison is inevitable, and Ledger's just got that *thing* in his voice in this clip.

No, I don't think I will - me, quoting Captain Steve Rogers, to all of 2020

"We are...two wild and crazy guys..."

"No. We are not."

"Georgei! How can you say that we are not two swanging bachelors with protrubing bulges for the foxes."

"You are not logical. I am neither wild nor crazy. And it is not yet time for the pon farr, therefore foxes are irrelevant."

"Georgei...you suck."

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Really? I didn't hear that at all. He seemed very different to me, much gruffer and scarier. I mean, the less-than-impeccable makeup helps that effect. When you think about it, how dangerous could Nicholson's Joker really be, if he spent that much time on his makeup?

I thought it wasn't makeup. I thought it was chemical damage.

And that Heath's Joker is wearing makeup.

eta: Also, you need to meet more women, if you think time spent on makeup has an inverse effect on danger

His danger is SO well-honed and efficient that he has oodles of free time to touch up his pancake makeup!

....or something like that.

Aha. Wikipedia says you're right. I haven't seen the movie in years. But still, it's such a...clean look, in a way. Heath Ledger's Joker looks more deranged.
