A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

I'm boggling that Stallone knows who Poe is let alone wants to make a movie about him.

Sly does have a brain beneath the 'roids and the bad plastic surgery. Sadly, after Rocky, he mostly wasted it on writing for crap sequels and other ego stroking devices.

Yeah, doesn't have an amazing art collection or some such?

I think he does. I know he paints. And wants to make a movie about the Armenian genocide.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Sly does have a brain beneath the 'roids and the bad plastic surgery.

Disclaimer: I am not Hec. However, in his b.org-blocked-at-work absence, I'll add that IIRC, Sly gave Tom Waits his first film role, Mumbles in Paradise Alley.

And, man, what a movie tagline!

The Carboni Boys. They haul ice, lay out stiffs and dance with monkeys.

Never fall in love with somebody you actually love.

Beowulf = AWESOME

Forget all the trailers you've seen - they don't even come a little bit close to doing the film justice.

Jessica is right here. I went in with no expectations of plot and thought the trailer made it look like an Xbox game, but seriously - it has plot, it has flawed, flawed characters and it looks amazin'.

It's also one of the most graphically violent/horrific films I can remember in recent years.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

If Beowulf sucks, I'm sending my moviegoing partner to kill y'all. He looked at me funny when I suggested it and said "This better not be another Ghost Rider." I'm hanging in his good graces by the skin of my teeth.

Never fall in love with somebody you actually love.

It's at 6.6 out of 10 on IMDB so far, so your mileage may vary ita. I found it... challenging, actually. I'm seriously *amazed* it got that rating. Absolutely amazed. And yes, amount I knew about the story of Beowulf going in? Nada. Which actually helped I suspect, as no baggage.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

flawed, flawed characters

For real. Even their flaws have flaws.

Flaw flaw flaw. The word has lost all meaning.
