How did your brain even learn human speech? I'm just so curious.

Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

My sister bought it when she came to visit last time, and kept watching it on my laptop in the living room. I had to yell at her to turn the screen so I couldn't see it, but when it came to the fight in the corridor I had to look because it's a thing of beauty. You know how there's a moment where the import of "one long take" becomes clear? I think that was hers, and it's a lovely one.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

You might wanna replace the latter with My Own Private Idaho or Parenthood instead.

In PARENTHOOD Keanu delivered, besides a decent supporting performance, one AWSOME speech I used to have memorized about how you need a license to drive, hunt, fish, etc., but any "butt-reaming asshole can be a father". I've given him huge points just for the delivery on that one scene (and he was no slouch in IDAHO or RIVER'S EDGE either).

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

but any "butt-reaming asshole can be a father".

Actually pretty sure that's not how it works.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

Isn't that where South Park posits Bono came from?

Any advance word of American Gangster? I swear the trailer is an aphrodisiac.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Any advance word of American Gangster?

Russell and Denzel are on the cover of EW.

There's a glowing review of American Gangster up at AICN right now. It is spoilery.

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

Oh! Oh! they filmed part of AG at my last job. Spent a day with fake smoke blowing through the trees and Denzel firing a rifle off the back terrace. All. Day. Long.

BOOM! boomboomboom!

I eventually stopped jumping.

And then he came down on a break while I was in the Rose Garden and we talked about roses and Ilex and it was very awkward and I told him I'd see him later.

I know nothing about the movie.

Except Armand Assante is also in it, looking dashing and dapper.
