Yes, Across the Universe is the Julie Taymor movie starring Evan Rachel Wood with the Beatles music. The NYTimes had an article about it not long ago.
Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
Yep, Across the Universe was taken away from the director (Julie Taymor) and given a studio edit, so who knows how bad the final film is going to be.
X-post with Dana!
Guys! Look! This is the movie my friend Nancy wrote. [link]
I gave her notes on this script. I remember her modeling the down coat she got to wear on the shoot in Canada. I heard stories about Ryan Gosling (she was impressed) while it was in post. We talked about it a couple of weeks ago at dinner. Now, here it is, an actual released movie! Yay, Nancy!
Niiiiice! Yay, Nancy! And cool, you!
I hate the Across The Universe (that's the Evan Rachel Wood-Beatle thing, right?) trailer. Every time it comes on I worry that they think I'm its audience because of what movie ticket I bought.
The only thing I liked about it was that it looked like there would be a whole segment on the Bread & Puppet theater (whose farm is right by our summer house in VT), but then I realized it takes place in the 60s when they were still in NYC.
I saw the preview for that one (Lars...) and was struck by how something so easily cringe-worthy was handled with gentleness and care. I'll have to see it.
Last night, I watched North & South. Wow. I thought nothing could ever supplant my A&E version of Pride & Prejudice love. But this one comes veeeerry close. Could be the best screen kiss ever...even if highly implausible.
I think I'm in love with Richard Armitage's voice. His Guy of Gisbourne in the BBC's Robin Hood is both dreamy and creepy.
since i'm seeing you in here, Happy Birthday P-C!!!

Better than The Whole Wide World ?
Last night, I watched North & South.
Wait, like that old Patrick Swayze one?
Wait, like that old Patrick Swayze one?
That's what _I_ thought when a friend recommended it.
Nope! This one.
