Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

move out and draw fire

If anyone ever has the slight urge to watch Flyboys, don't.

A movie about the Lafayette Escadrille could have been good. The fact that they titled the movie "Flyboys" and not "The Lafayette Escadrille" was in fact my first clue that this movie would suck. The horrible reviews it got were the second clue...but you know what? The reviews were generous.

We watched about half of it on 6x fast forward, and it was still boring and amateurish. Only the homoeroticism between James Franco and That Other Guy provided any entertainment.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

Thanks for that, Raq. There's a gorgeous vid for Flyboys, gorgeous enough that it had prompted me to plan to add it to my Netflix queue. I'll just play the vid instead.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

I saw that vid last night! It was very pretty.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

I finally saw the Simpsons movie yesterday (see tagline) -- definitely worth matinee price. Fun, and funny, and a great way to spend a 95-degree afternoon.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

Oooh, Romance and Cigarettes is finally getting a (limited) release! I've been wondering if I just missed it coming out last fall, which was the last time I'd heard about it.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

O lord I hope the rumors of a Joust feature film have been greatly exaggerated. Yes I mean the video game with the ostriches.

aka "The artist formerly known as Corwood Industries."

In a world... where ostriches fly... one man... must buck the odds... to fight other guys on giant flying birds... are you kidding me with this shit?... What's next, Yar's Revenge?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Hugo goes skiing!

And I think that Tetris could make a great Koyaanisqatsi-like flick.
