Non-Fiction TV: I Reject Your Reality and Substitute My Own

This thread is for non-fiction TV, including but not limited to reality television (So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef: Masters, Project Runway), documentaries (The History Channel, The Discovery Channel), and sundry (Expedition Africa, Mythbusters), et al. [NAFDA]

Because books.

Lisa seems determined to blame everyone else, doesn't she? Anyone could have knocked into that knob accidentally, for heaven's sake.

And sadly, Andrew has kind of grown on me. He's so earnest! And yes, crazy, but really pretty good-natured about it. Bye, Andrew.

Spike and Lisa need to go next. Lisa for her shitty attitude and Spike for his nastiness. That stunt with the lettuce and the tomato and the bread was just shitty.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

And sadly, Andrew has kind of grown on me.

That's the other thing I was going to say!

I'd have much rather gotten rid of Spike than Andrew, but I'm not sad to see either one go. I think Lisa's on the way out soon anyway. And I still am liking Antonia lots.

or turned it up thinking that they were turning up a different burner. could easily be an honest mistake.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I'd have much rather gotten rid of Spike than Andrew, but I'm not sad to see either one go.

Yeah, I was really hoping for Spike to be out of there, but hey, Andrew leaving is almost as good.

Honestly, they could have eliminated all three of them tonight and saved us from two more weeks of assholery. It's not like either Spike or Lisa is getting into the finals.

And FINALLY next week the chefs get to cook some goddamn RESTAURANT FOOD! No more Top Caterer!

I still think this season's cast is the whiniest and most generally unpleasant of the bunch. I know S2 was bad, but that seemed to be contained to a few super-annoying contestants who unfortunately dominated the airtime. This season, though, I feel that there are so many sadsacks. Spike, Lisa. I never warmed up to Andrew. I think Dale is a talented chef, but he certainly veers close to the obnoxious line every now and again.

But in happier news, Sam is still all kinds of yummy!

Preach it! Dear doG, even when they've had a chance to cook a proper meal (the improv challenge) they still had to cart it somewhere. I really want to know what they were thinking this year with all these move-the-food challenges. At least real caterers get some decent prep time.

To understand what happened at the diner, we shall use Mr. Papaya! This is upsetting because he's the friendliest of fruits.

And sadly, Andrew has kind of grown on me.

Yeah, I was sort of fond of Crazy Andy, too. Although admittedly, it was the bad crazy tonight. I much prefer him when he's running around in a football helmet or jumping for joy because gnomes have stolen the blender.

I really think we're looking at Stephanie, Richard and Dale in the finals. If they do a four person, it's a bit of a jump ball. Antonia's attitude isn't half bad, really, but I don't know if she's got it in her to stay much longer.

Spike's an idiot, who's distracting himself with his little games, to the point where he's sabotaging himself as much as anyone. And Lisa's hit it a couple times, but her attitude's lousy, and that just gets in her way. Her social skills are as bad as Dale's, only more passive aggressive.

And she probably did fuck up the rice all on her own. I remember Season One, when Tiffani made the same complaint, and later the producers came out and said something like, "There's cameras filming every inch of the kitchen, and if someone had sabotaged someone, we'd show it. Because that's good TV." She just doesn't take responsibility for anything.

Serial, cereal, surreal:

Gail said something interesting on her blog:

Having seen three other seasons of chefs get to this stage in the competition, it is easy for me to spot that moment when they become so run-down and frustrated that they give up trying to defend their food and instead begin looking for other people to blame.

I will miss Andrew. yes, he was kind of annoying, but I think that he was a genuine guy. I do think less of him for being friends with Spike, though. And Spike has bacne, ew!
