what exactly is wrong with it, le nub? it's no different than someone like Chris Martin writing "Fair Trade" on his hand for a performance. i seriously don't get it.
Non-Fiction TV: I Reject Your Reality and Substitute My Own
This thread is for non-fiction TV, including but not limited to reality television (So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef: Masters, Project Runway), documentaries (The History Channel, The Discovery Channel), and sundry (Expedition Africa, Mythbusters), et al. [NAFDA]
Seriously, bon. I swear I'm about ready to root for James. Fucking James. Help.
what exactly is wrong with it, le nub?
It made me seriously cringe, how serious and overdramatic he was being about the whole reveal. And I don't dislike him on a usual night. (Though this week he really was ghastly.)
yeah, I'm with brenda.
I must admit, I didn't see Chris Martin do this, but I wouldn't like it either. If this were a photograph, then I might buy the writing on the hand, but you are using your voice as medium. Is there a problem just saying "please give?"
I just thought it was really cheesy and unnecessary as performed Tuesday night. It didn't help that I hated his song too.
I don't WANT to like Fergie's music, but the damn tunes are so catchy!
On a semi-related to reality tv note: WTF happened to TWOP? It's all weird and different, and I don't like it. BOO.
I was so excited to see all the SYTYCD kids, I don't watch Idol, but I tuned in for five minutes just to see that, because it was mentioned here!
well...he was singing a song that he specifically picked for his brother and a little girl with cancer he's been in contact with that told him he was her favorite idol. something like Idol Gives Back is a cause he feels very passionate about and i suppose i just know way more than the average watcher does. because i know he has a cancer ribbon tattooed on his chest and he has his brother's initials tattooed on his bicep. he's just generally a guy that gets involved and i guess i just don't understand how that is a bad thing.
it's possible i need to step away from this thread until Idol is over because i'm feeling pretty protective of DCook. moreso than i was about Blake last year.
smug/pretentious/assworthy
Oh, say for example, instead of replying honestly to Ryan's question about what he thought of Simon's opinion of his singing he wondered how many words similar to "arrogant and smug" Simon could come up with. Despite the fact Simon can be quite harsh, he is usually quite right. And, I'm guessing, David Cook thinks Simon is right, too, because he didn't do anything to disabuse anyone of that very notion, but added to it.
I don't get the David Cook ... dislike either, honestly. I may just be seeing him as shy and a little cool instead of smug or arrogant, but regardless, he's the only left I could see myself listening to after this is over.
::pets tiggy::
honestly, Sail? i probably would have responded the same way David did. deflect with humour. how was he supposed to answer the question? "why, no Ryan. i don't believe i am pompous." well...that would have stopped the naysayers!
Amy, you are me. i see him as shy and humble and glad to be there.
"why, no Ryan. i don't believe i am pompous." well...that would have stopped the naysayers!
"I'm sorry Simon sees me as pompous, I'm not trying to be. I think, as has been pointed out, I could improve by....etc."
Being a smartass in response to a smartass doesn't make him look any more than a smartass. A smug smartass.
no one's able to actually tell how they think he's being smug/pretentious/assworthy
Well, I hope Cook actually does more than just, you know, writing on himself and saying he feels passionately about cancer, African orphans and poverty. I don't think writing "free trade" on one's hand is particularly admirable, but at least it's specific. Writing "give back" on one's hand is obnoxious for several reasons-- it implies that you believe you have a special status and are in a position to encourage people to do good, and yet, he used his podium to write the least specific expression of charity one could think of, and treated it like it was a big, courageous thing. Fair trade actually implies something of controversy. "Give back" is pabulum. It's like being impressed with yourself for boycotting diamonds. It's not like that's hard.
Anyway, since tiggy asked why people hate David Cook, I'm trying to be specific.
