Non-Fiction TV: I Reject Your Reality and Substitute My Own
This thread is for non-fiction TV, including but not limited to reality television (So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef: Masters, Project Runway), documentaries (The History Channel, The Discovery Channel), and sundry (Expedition Africa, Mythbusters), et al. [NAFDA]
Holly looked flabby tonight. (And like Matthew said -- not for an actual person, for a model!)
SO much this. She has a lovely body. But yeah, for a model, I guess they want more tone. Not thinner, though! Good god.
I want Holly to win, but the folks voting seem determined to keep the boys, so. And I think she'd be fine if she had some Professor Higgins action.
Little late to the TC party -- still liking Andrew, though he can/probably will teeter over to annoying. He strikes me as the guy who is really kind of shy, but has developed this persona. He was sweet at judges table, when he was so excited/nervous that they like his dish.
Shark Bait has got to go. I'm tired of the gastronomy bullshit and the sous videing. Cook some damn food. don't do "aromas" and foams, make sauces and garnishes.
Ronnie definitely rocked that photo--he lost all that preppy look beneath the Earth motif. But, I don't think he has a chance in hell to win, and if he does, he shouldn't have. Like the judges said, he'll be making money hand over fist in the fields his face works best in. Same with Ben--that intense look of his will definitely work in certain areas.
It'll be down to either Holly or Perry, and I think, seeing the bias the voters have for the guys, it'll be Perry winning. Holly will do well if she doesn't win; like that judge said, she'll be on every agency's to-call list as soon as the show's done. As much of an ass as Perry is, he has the most talent for acting and expression, which is, from what I've seen just from watching this show and sensing from the various comments, what is really needed in the field of modeling to become a superstar.
MMaSM: I agree. Ronnie is now definitely the weakest in this lot. And Shannon was a better model. But that aside, he pulled out a great photo in the earth shot. It was gorgeous. Holly's picture was also amazing. I was too distracted by the tuck job to have any real opinion about Perry's shot.
But damn, peoples, Ben's photos were freaking hot. Can't believe the goofy-smile, head-bonking, can't-walk guy pulled out that photo. Blazing.
I think Holly & Perry will probably end up tops, and I agree that probably Perry will win. So cute how starstruck he was when Naomi Campbell turned up.
Although as far as the gender bias goes, I think we said way at the beginning that the men's field was far stronger than the women's field. I think that Shannon fell to the Ben/Ronnie shippers, rather than just a gender bias.
I think they all deserve jobs! Perry's final photo was just so much weirder than the other ones that it was hard to compare them, I felt. Ben's were indeed freakin' hot.

Yeah, that was a real step up for him.
Sad for Shannon, but her loss is not that big-- she can still easily get jobs without the stigma of being as famous.
I did like the comments by the panel about booking models. It would never have occurred to me that Perry's shoulders make him not good for a fragrance shoot.
As far as the weight issue-- yeah, Ronnie and Holly looked a little puffy, and Holly's tiny back chub (I can't think of a name for it) would have made it unlikely she would be cast in a real runway show. But why does M. Rolston care? Couture casting, I can see being strict about body types and sizes. But why do photographers have to buy into that? To me, that was troubling.
And either one of them could tighten up without too much effort, I'd think, if it were a barrier to real jobs. I had already been thinking Holly's face looked puffy earlier in the episode, so maybe it was even just a hormonal thing or something else random. Too much salt that weekend, or whatever.

That was interesting.

YES! That was infuriating me in the shower this morning where I was going over the past night's events (me watching MMaSM, that is).
Finally caught up on TC and THANK GOD BELLINI WOMAN IS GONE.
Dear Not!RachelDratch,
Are you serving the fennel marscapone rutabega atrocity atop a champagne/peach nectar cocktail? ARE YOU????
I'll take the judges word for it that it tasted bad too. Her pronounciation was getting on my last nerve.
Twitchy Guy Whose Name I Can't Remember is getting pretty annoying too, but at least his food looks good.
