It's a variant on the Great British Bake-Off, but they can't use the term Bake-Off in America, because the Pillsbury Company copyrighted that back in the 30s or something. Mary Berry is/was one of the judges of GBBO until the BBC sold the show to Channel 4 and three-quarters of the host team said they were going to stay with the BBC instead of going to the new boss.
Non-Fiction TV: I Reject Your Reality and Substitute My Own
This thread is for non-fiction TV, including but not limited to reality television (So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef: Masters, Project Runway), documentaries (The History Channel, The Discovery Channel), and sundry (Expedition Africa, Mythbusters), et al. [NAFDA]
Yup - I knew that - I just expected something that was more like the GBBO in tone. I did like that both judges and the hosts seemed to be trying to be nice (as in the BBC version). sigh ... I missed Sue's funny voices
I missed Sue's funny voices
The couple they've got are nice, but no, they're not Sue and Mel. And I miss the side stories on the history of the item.
I'm very disappointed with the winner of this week's challenge on Project Runway.
I like the Great American Baking Show as long as I don't compare it too much to its British counterpart. The talent of the home bakers on the American show is far inferior imho.
I was supremely disappointed with the output for this weeks avant garde challenge on PR. When I think back to Christian and Chris and their avant garde challenge dress, I weep! I do think the designers were a little bit hamstrung by having the avant garde challenge grafted onto the unconventional materials challenge and also by the "every challenge has to be only a day" edict since they show switched over to Bunim Murray. It's really hard to do avant garde in a day. All that said, it was slim pickings on that runway. Wasn't in love with the winner but at least the look was a little bit out of the box. The other contender literally looked like ready-to-wear just with some geegaws and grommets on it. I was also sad about the aufing although I think that the designer who got auf'ed probably deserved to go home.
Top Chef: I am not really okay with where they chose to do the first quick fire. Even before the two people were decided. Ugh.
Yeah, and I'm wondering if the location influenced their decision about who would compete.
It certainly made it harder to watch
GABS: I actually thought they did a better job this time of getting the tone closer to GBBO. Except for the Paul Hollywood character mainlandsplaining (?) to the PR woman that desserts from her region are "usually cloyingly sweet". Something else he said made me raise an eyebrow too but I disremember.
I can't stand him and couldn't even before this show.
Yeah, he's a little too invested in some Bad Boy of Baking schtick. I don't like Paul Hollywood, either.
I dint recall ever seeing him before but I'm not impressed.
