Non-Fiction TV: I Reject Your Reality and Substitute My Own
This thread is for non-fiction TV, including but not limited to reality television (So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef: Masters, Project Runway), documentaries (The History Channel, The Discovery Channel), and sundry (Expedition Africa, Mythbusters), et al. [NAFDA]
Cookie Monster?
I would have swapped out the kid who sang Creep for another one of the girls but not sure who. Definitely not Emily (I think that's her name, the one who didn't get through last year) because she didn't do well either nights. I thought Stephany would go through because she did fairly well with her duet with Ruben.
The rest of them I don't really remember... I don't know how popular Brenda K Starr's daughter is going to be when it comes to voting so she may stick around.
Jordan at least cut his hair. It's like they went heavy on sending people through (esp younger contestants) because it's the last year. I'm hoping this week was just the weaker half because honesty I think they could have kept 4 and cut 7 and been fine. But there is always cannon fodder in the mix.
ION I watched the last part of Project Runway All Stars premiere and sweet baby jesus why did they not eliminate both? They'll probably do a double elimination next week anyway. But the one guy , besides picking fabric that isn't easy to tailor and he's never worked with before, didn't follow the challenge and the other that looked like a three year old grabbed her mama's bathing suit and every tutu she owned wore it at once. I didn't see that guy's season of Project Runway but that was just so bad.
Ooh, I haven't watched PR:AS yet, but now I am excited! I haven't seen a good disaster walk the runway in a while.
Cookie Monster = David Cook. I was not and remain not a big fan of his. I am excited about some of the others coming back, though, especially Hailey Reinhart. I will be pissed if Glambert doesn't come back at least once.
Some of those 15 year olds took Jessica Cabral's spot. That's what had really happened.
I don't like Kelly Pickler.
Yeah one of them took her spot and she was so good. But according to the interview Victor did she's got an audition with the Voice.
Awww, I have a soft spot for the Pickle. And at least we don't have to worry about her outsinging the contestants!
Since we got Shelby Z from The Voice for this final Idol season, it seems only fair that they take Jessica onto their roster!
PR: I am not happy about Dimitri being a judge. He irritates me and I don't want to hear his opinion. I don't remember Daniel from back when, but he made terrible decisions all the way through this challenge. I don't remember Mitchell, either, beyond the vague feeling that I didn't care for him on his season, either. askye's not wrong, they could both have gone home easily. That would have made more sense, really. But I'm sure they will both fuck up again soon enough.
The winning dress was pretty great, so that's nice to see. And I remember liking her on her season, I think, so that's good.
It was bad enough when the All Stars weren't as good as the regular season, but now they are kinda not looking as good as the Juniors. Taken as a whole.
Daniel was on Season 1 and 2 according to the ew.com recap. Which means he should know that not following challenges is not good, but if I remember correctly in the first two seasons there weren't a whole of things with sleeves being made because of time management issues.
My second fave on Kids Baking Champsionship was sent home. It was a challenge that was hard time wise, especially for a bunch of 10-13 year olds (I think the youngest was 10). Make a sweet dish that looked like a savory dish in 2 hours. They were given the dish to make part way through (not sure how much time through) were told to make a savory cupcake...had to have frosting. But what they were looking for was flavors of a muffin but with a cupcake texture.
Although Duff and Val are really great judges with the kids.
Yeah, I know I watched season 1, maybe not season 2, I don't remember him at all. I guess that gave him a lot of time to forget whatever he learned back then, but his fabric choice was not good, his inspiration did not make sense, and his construction was terrible. I will be disappointed if he doesn't go home next week.
Mmm, savory cupcake sounds good.
I'm wondering what kind of song choices the constants were given tonight on Idol to pick out the ones they did.
The only performance I really liked was Dalton's and that was more of what he did with the song than his actual voice.
I also realized no one says "pitchy" and that they all (esp Harry Connick Jr) say out of tune. He's usually the first one to say "out of tune" instead of some sugar coated way of saying "out of tune."
Idol - so duets better this week (or the next day because based on what the "in house mentor" said it sounded like they were filmed back to back, whcih makes sense....
anyway they sounded better than last week. But the solos this week were worse than last week. I forgot how much I like David Cook's voice. The only person I didn't think should go through was Manny, I wasn't feeling his performance with Jordin Sparks. I think I would have put Amelia through instead.
I also kind of liked Harry Connick Jr talking back about Constantine saying My Funny Valentine needed ..whatever he said it needed..because it doesn't.
Oh! I did not hate Kellie Pickler. She looked younger (to me) now than when she was on the show... when she was on she had the weird look of someone who is young but manages to look like someone older trying to look young (if that makes sense)... and I liked her performances and the way she was with the contestants.
