Non-Fiction TV: I Reject Your Reality and Substitute My Own
This thread is for non-fiction TV, including but not limited to reality television (So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef: Masters, Project Runway), documentaries (The History Channel, The Discovery Channel), and sundry (Expedition Africa, Mythbusters), et al. [NAFDA]
I have been watching SYTYCD and very much not caring at all. I just can't get amped about this Street vs. Stage nonsense, even though I have enjoyed some of the kids thus far. I just...that's not what I watch this show for. I see lots of hip hop/b-boy kids who got knocked out of Vegas when they couldn't pick up choreo in other styles are back now for this season and I guess that's cute, but I hate that they are coming back because they know they won't be asked to really challenge themselves, stretch and grow as dancers in other styles. Because it can be done. Because we've seen it done before. And you always come out the other side a better dancer. Just, eh. This new show is not my show.
Well, hell, I was feeling kinda bad that I haven't been in the mood to watch SYTYCD this season but if it doesn't have the part I love best (dancers rising to new styles and techniques) maybe I won't bother.
I decided to not even watch this season. And I guess now I'm even more happy with that decision.
I will watch until I can't anymore. I will report on how good or bad it is.
My only opinion so far is that if Jaja doesn't make it on to the show, I'm going to cut someone.
My understanding is that as soon as they get to Top 20, it's the usual mix of styles for everyone.
But it looked like Vegas week only involved hip hop choreography for the street dancers and only "stage" stuff for those dancers?!? That would be awful (though I'm sure some street dancers can't do ANY choreography, so...)
I may have missed this but is anyone watching Next Food Network Star? I don't really watch it but I'd seen all the Chopped and Cuthroat Kitchen episodes on On Demand so I watched.
There was one smart alec-y infruiating guy. One of those hipster mansplainer types. And he landed in the bottom three and in the group while they were waiting to hear who got cut he was bitching about how good his food was and how the judges didn't know anything and I think he may have implied they were old.
Anyway they went back out and Giada was about to tell someone she was eliminated and this kid smirked. They cut to Bobby Flay saying "he's just young" and Giada said "can I change my vote? I'm changing my vote."
So he was eliminated based on his attitude. It was refreshing to see because I thought they'd keep him around for entertainment value.
Yeah, that was amazing.
It was. I think he only got Giada's vote based on his food so when he acted like the pompous jerk he was it was very gratifying to see him smacked down.
