( continues...) even made Paula’s metaphors make sense. Magic!
Amy Solo/Unchained Melody/The Righteous Brothers – She’s beautiful but the choreography was a mess. Lots of reaching out into the nothingness and shaking her fists. She also had a lot of lovely technique and what a center, just drilled down on those turns. Still, I didn’t like it as much as I liked Jasmine’s.
Fik Shun and Twitch/Hip Hop/Hello Good Morning/Diddy Dirty Money feat. Nicki Minaj and Rick Ross – Aww, yeah. I expect it to be broughten. Luther Brown. They should’ve let Comfort choreograph it. Also, I totally thought they were going to dance to Mercy because they were saying “Swerve” so much so the Diddy track threw me a little bit just at the beginning. Twitch looked like he was out there dancing with his son. So cute, they were, but it was just so incongruous. They both tore it down. The old man step was classic. Ha! Nigel called them Twitch and Twitch, Jr. Spot on, my friend. Spot on. They are just so frikkin’ adorable together. My cheeks hurt from smiling.
Aaron Solo/You and I both/Jason Mraz – He’s just a joy to watch. That’s all.
Amy and Robert/Contemporary/Say Something/A Great Big World - Stacey usually rises to the level of her dancers so this should be good. Was that a little dig from Cat about staying in her lane by choosing contemporary? I don’t have any words. I just . . . the one handed press up while he was on his knees is just not a possible thing. The connection between the two of them and the everything of it was ugh. I wasn’t a huge Robert fan during his season but he has done stunning work on the show this season. And Amy, I just can’t. Have loved her from the moment she stepped onto the stage and I love her still. That goes into the Best of cue for this season for sure.
God damn, they are working these kids this week. Poor noodles.
Aaron and Fik Shun/Broadway/The Jitters/Big Bad Voodoo Daddy - Nooooooooooo! Tasty Broadway in the finale? Why does Nigel hate me so much? Nigel thinks it was reminiscent of Michael Kidd’s choreography. That’s a nice way to say copycat. I was bored. I think I might have looked away at one point. I suppose we were meant to be wowed by the moving sidewalk, but I was underwhelmed. The choreography did not seem that challenging. And I continue to think that Aaron’s range of motion is impaired by whatever is going on with his shoulder.
Amy and Jasmine/Jazz/The Diva Dance/Eric Serra - Mark!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love it already. I pre-emptively love it. Siamese twins from the fierce jungles of Saturn. I love this crazy kid. Who won that dance clash of the titans? We all did, dance fans. We all did. That was crazy good. These two ladies are so evenly matched. Technically solid. Great performance quality. Just good. They put in work every time. I don’t even think I can describe what they were doing because it was all Mark-ified, but I wanted to keep watching it. And using the music from The Fifth Element? Oh, Mark. I heart you.
Who will win?
Hell if I know. Coming in, I had it as a lock for Aaron and a toss up for the girls. I still think it’s a complete toss up for the girls. I’d give the edge to Jasmine, but Amy is also exquisite. And Aaron had kind of a rough night of dancing while Fik Shun, Tango-Paso aside, had a very good night. So who knows.
My heart picks Aaron and Jasmine, like I have pretty much the whole season, but it’s wide open. Glad they held off so long on trying to kill the kids through overdancing.
