I think that was the problem. Jazz is not a form a lot of people feel comfortable with or understand. So they vote for the style of the dance rather than the dancers. That's what happens when you let the unwashed masses vote.
This. They're going to respond to hip hop or contemporary, but you get into jazz or Martha Graham type shit, and they're for the most part lost.
TC: I haven't watched that much, but I like the Asian guy and the guy who won the BBQ thing. He was clapping when the judges congratulated the women for coming back. He could have just stood there, but it seemed he was actually happy for them.
SYTYCD: I call huge bullshit on Cedric staying. Yes, he has a wonderful fluidity when he is freestyling, but he sucked as a partner last night. I can see him doing ok with contemporary, but another ballroom style? A jazz choreography like Tyce did last night? How would he have done in that Broadway routine Shauna and Jimmy did last week? I didn't care all that much for Jimmy's DOD solo tonight, too frantic, but I definitely think he should have stayed.
I was really impressed by Shauna tonight. I didn't know she had it like that. Between Faina and Jesse, I didn't really care. Don't like either one of them. Faina brought the stank face attitude, so I'm actually kinda glad that she went home tonight. Hopefully, baby oil girl will be next. For the life of me, I don't know what the jidges see in her.
As for the rest, Chuy and Sarah and Sabra and Dom = Love. Shane's choreography for the group number blew me away. It's the best thing he's ever done on the show and I would not have thought he had it in him. And for the love of all that is holy, please make the musical guests stop. Why don't they bring on some dance companies? Too much like right?
I don't think Hell's Kitchen is a very good example of who he is. He's built his reputation on being a yeller but according to what I've read (there's one New York Times) that he instills a very strong sense of loyalty.
Plus, the yelling is almost exclusively about the quality and timlieness of the product going out to the customer (or lack thereof). He may make it personal, but it's all about the food.
Wow. Marcel seriously cannot write to save his life, bless his heart.
Oh, that blog is so much better then his My Space.
I liked what Harold said about Hung's knife skills and Marcel kind of echoed that. I will have to pay more attention. (Although, I kind of agree with Harold that Hung racing around the kitchen seems a tad dangerous.)
Oh and there is bonus footage of the Howie/Joey fight which I have not seen. (At home, dial-up, no sound.)
I hear that it become clear that Howie's angry response to Joey completely un-nerved him and then that Howie didn't know how to stop and Tre and Casey had to step in.
Huh! The link you posted goes to a Top Design bonus footage clip, sumi.
Oops -- let me go find the right spot!
In the meantime a few more links:
Afterelton interview with Dale Levitski and two reviews in the NY times.
Well, here it the TC index page with a sidebar to the bonus video.
And I hope that this is the actual footage.
