I've always thought Witney was overpraised. Not that I particularly care if it's her or Lindsay or Amelia, or really any of the girls (except Eliana, who I definitely want to take it all now).

For guys, I'd go with Cole, but my top three could pretty much include anyone who's not Cyrus.

After a great start, the Best of DVD list is turning out to be pretty slim pickings this year. I hope that the dancers and choreographers bring it next week.

SYTYCD: Last night's show was just a'ight for me for you. I wasn't really blown away by any of the chorographed routines. I did appreciate seeing some new faces amongst the choreographers. And having said all that, now I'm gonna go on forever about this show because I just can't help myself!

Group Dance/Peter Chu/Run boy Run – Love the beginning with the kids doing that slow walk back. Cyrus stuck out like a sore thumb of wrong in this number. He was so being out danced by everyone on that stage. And Eliana was turning it out on those girls. I can’t even with Cyrus in the back there. He looked so bad. At least this new choreographer actually made him dance. Well done, new boy. No Cedric-ing for you.

Dance Ins – Still hate the solo dance ins. What is the little hand move the kids are doing? I guess it’s better than the heart hands or whatever those season 4 kids were trying to work out. There are so few of them. When did that happen? See? Cat knows.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson. EEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

And new All Stars! Yay. I didn’t expect them to keep adding to the All Star stable week after week. Did they do that last year? Here’s what I thought of them as they were announced:

Is that a DiLello I see before me? Shut the front door!

Melanie! EEEEEEEE!!!

Ade = Ice Castles.

Solos in order of preference

1. Chehon Solo/On the Nature of Daylight - Let’s find out about Eurotrash Danny’s background, shall we? Ah, born in Chi-town. So that’s how he can be on this show. Oh my gosh, his mom is sooo cute. Damn. That solo was everything right there. Everything.

1a. Eliana Solo/Infra 8 - She really looks like her mom. Wow. En pointe! Take that, bitches. Gorgeous. Joffrey on your asses. She’s so tremendous.

2. Cyrus Solo/Existence - He’s a crazy good popper. Definitely the best they’ve ever had on the show, including Chbeeb.

3. Will Solo/Better Man - This big pasty kid! Kittens, he’s just a joy to watch. And really gorgeous toe point. I don’t think I’ve even admired it as much as I should. I liked that he didn’t do a whole lot of turning and tricks, just lovely grounded movement. Great extensions. Beautiful turn out. Turn out for days, y’all.

4. Cole Solo/Arise - Oh my word, his family is adorkable. But he so needs to give the marial arts thing a break. He doesn’t need it because he’s a brilliant dancer. He doesn’t need a gimmick.

5. Tiffany Solo/I Was Here – What an adorable little gap toothed girl. Too bad she can’t speak English. Her and I? Really? Not a bad solo. Very grounded. Lovely center on this girl. Not even that much hair flinging. It is actually a choreographed piece. Terrible costume, but one of the better solos from a contempo studio girl.

6. Witney Solo/Where Have You Been - She’s just so much . . . more than Lindsey. It’s kind of ridiculous. This girl is fierce. Even doing the typical bad ballroom kid solo.

7. Lindsey Solo/Senorita - I don’t care at all. Well, maybe she can get on the troupe for Dancing with the Stars. I thought her solo was horrible. I’m never impressed by this girl. I’m all done with her now.

Pair dances in order of preference

1. Cole and Allison/Contemporary/Sonya/Possibly, Maybe – Cole playing soulless. Now there’s a stretch. I wish they’d start pushing him outside of his creepy comfort zone. Where is his Bollywood, standard ballroom or hip hop? That said, I fricking love Allison. She’s so amazing. That was a gorgeous lift with her legs in second and feet flexed. Cole did very well with this dance but I was mainly watching Allison because she’s a straight up beast. Great choreography by Sonya. The last pose? Stunning. I loved the piece. Loved loved loved the piece. It was so technically difficult. I don’t even know where to begin. I might watch that one again.

2. Witney and Twitch/Hip Hop/Luther Brown/My Homie Still – New hip hop blood. Ooooh. Ah, get it, girl. Let me just say (continued...)

( continues...) Witney was turning it out. She lost a little energy in the middle, but she had the attitude just right. Great hairography. She was giving you hood rat realness. I’d put her in a video. I thought she smashed that. And while I wasn’t wild for the choreography, I just liked that it was straight up dance, no story, no lyrical hip hop. Did Nigel say “rat shit”? I guess that’s OK. I don’t know what ratched means either. And JTF called out the diaper pants which . . . for real. Dammit. Wardrobe. Hos. Dammit to hell. I enjoyed that routine a lot. I might even watch that one again, too.

3. Eliana and Ryan/Quickstep/Jonathan Roberts/That Man - I thought she’d do well with this (and I was right!). Ryan is truly a great partner. And look at those legs on Eliana. Goddess. Look at that posture in hold! It was a pretty slow quickstep, but she got so much right I kinda didn’t care. Love the back walkover right over his shoulder. You know there really was a lot of content thrown in there as well. Overall it was fun. I agree with Nigel. Eliana’s topline was amazing. Great posture. And thank goodness Cat thanked Ryan. I think that’s the first time none of the judges have said anything about the All Star. He is perhaps the best male ballroom partner dancer they’ve ever had on the show. He really knows how to support and frame the lady in a dance. He’s not Pasha in terms of overall charm and charisma but he’s a really fabulous partner. Why so much hate for him, judges?

4. Tiffany and Ade/Contemporary/Mandy Moore/The Power of Love – Tiffany in the pimp slot? You know that was more to celebrate the return of 80’s pop Mandy than anything else. Awww, yeah. I’d have given 80's pop Mandy the pimp slot, too. Tiffany is a really light, beautiful dancer. No personality at all, but she will work forever. She’s got great facility. That was fun but not pimp slot worthy.

5. Chehon and Anya/Tango/Miriam and Leonardo/Breathing Slow Surface - OK, that opening had nothing to do with tango. Very pretty though. This was kind of paso tango. No wonder poor Chehon was confused. Finally, they got in hold and started doing flicks and kicks and recognizable tango steps after like half the dance was over. But then they ruined it all with a ridiculously long turning lift sequence. It was a beautiful dance, OK. But it was not tango. AT least Anya didn't totally overpower him. He looked like a man up there with her and that’s not easy. Well done, kids. On a side note, Chehon gets tango? Ummm, I’m not so sure about that. Why did the two ballet kids both get ballroom?

6. Cyrus and Melanie/Jazz/Mandy Moore/Badder Badder Schwing - Loved this stylized kinda 60's Fosse movement. It was so much fun. Take note, Tasty. That's how you do an homage to a choreographer's style without being a total copycat. I gotta say though, that was ridiculously easy choreography she gave Cyrus. He barely had to move. Melanie was just dancing and turning and kicking and he was standing or falling on the ground slowly. So that was fun. It also could’ve been danced (well at least the male part) by any halfway decent intermediate dancers. Ugh. So sick of grading this kid on a curve. He is not as good as the rest of these dancers.

7. Will and Lauren/Hip Hop/Christopher Scott/Dance My Pain Away – I loved everything about this set up except one thing. I’ll let y’all guess which one. Will was overacting like a crazy person at the beginning, but he reined it in by the end. He has such a huge range of motion with that big, pasty frame. He was not exactly doing hip hop really, but I liked what he was doing. Why is Lauren dressed like that? Again, I must say dammit, Wardrobe Hos. I think they are the ones who should be grounded. Eh. I won’t remember that routine by the end of the night.

8. Lindsey and Alex/Jazz/Sonya/Somebody That I Used to Know - Ewww. Wasting Alex Wong on this fool. And a week after gifting her with Jacob?! Well this routine just felt like a throw away and it (continued...)

( continues...) was mainly because the dancers didn’t show up with their heads in the game. More great choreo from Sonya. Sadly, I was only watching Alex. Was Lindsey even there? Because Alex owned that whole stage. Toe point of the gods. Nigel was right that there was not sexual tension, but that’s mainly because Lindsey wasn’t giving anything. Alex was serving and she was just there. Poor Alex. He did what he could with very inferior material. It was just cruel of Nigel to mention Allison here because she would’ve crushed it with Alex in this routine.

Bottom Two Girls

Lindsey and Witney. I think they are splitting the toothy blonde Mormon girl vote. I don’t disagree with them as the B2, though.

Bottom Two Guys

Will and Cole. Good heavens, America. Please stop voting for Cyrus. He is, much like Jesse Tyler Ferguson noted about Will, more adorable than a basket of kittens and puppies but he cannot hang with the rest of the dancers on this show.

Going Home

Please be Lindsey. Please be Lindsey. Please be Lindsey. Please be Lindsey. Lindsey. Aaaaah. That’s the stuff.

This is so hard with these boys. I never would’ve thought it, but I really want to save Big Pasty. But no. Dammit. Will goes home. You shocked the hell out of me, Big Pasty 2. I love ya. He’s so crazy tall. He towers over Cat. How does he move all that body like that? Awww.

So only two more weeks? This season seemed really short. I guess it's 'cause we're down to one show a week.

information libertarian

The show was short this year, though - Nigel has said they offered him starting with only 14 dancers. We found a way to take 20, but to do it he had to do two double-elimination weeks.

I agreed that Witney really served in the hip-hop piece. She was sharp and fierce. I wonder where Pasha is this year? I would love to see her dance with a ballroom partner.

Cole actually scares me a little bit. I suspect he is one of the dancers who is a total perfectionist and rehearses one zillion times. Alex Wong is like that too, actually, but he is much less creepy than Cole. I think Cole's creepy "act" is actually his personality.

Anyway, Eliana should win, boys I don't care now. The end.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

On a side note, Chehon gets tango? Ummm, I’m not so sure about that. Why did the two ballet kids both get ballroom?

I wonder if they are actually doing the thing they showed us at the beginning of the season, where the dancers pick numbers and then get to pick styles in order. I could see it shaking out like that, assuming other kids avoid ballroom and ballet kids would prefer it over (say) hiphop.

Oh, yeah. I totally forgot that they revealed they were doing that method this season rather than the suspiciously non-random magic hat method they claimed they used in the past. I might be able to see ballet kids picking ballroom over hip hop. Although, Eliana seems to be pretty versatile and Quikstep has traditionally not gone well on this show. Would she have gone with that over hip hop?

Dang, I can only imagine that must've meant that Witney picked dead last since I can't believe if a ballroom style had been left when her turn came up, she wouldn't have taken it rather than getting ratched with the hip hop and the diaper pants.

Now I'm going to spend way too much time thinking about what the pick order might have been. And I wonder if, when they pick, they get to learn the All Star along with learning the style now, because that would likely be a huge influence. So many questions!

Because books.

Project Runway: I'd love to see a challenge forbidding anyone from using black fabric. Just once.

Heh. That would be entertaining.

Four high scores and two low! Mixing it up!

I just got a chance to watch SYTYCD. All I can say is that I was surprisingly sad to see Big Pasty go. And thought Allison was AMAZING in her number with Cole...but I barely noticed him. Would love to see her dance it with someone else. And I quite liked the Tiffany/Ade number--I was surprised at how much I liked her in it.

I feel like the All Star formula makes it hard because on the one hand, so many of them (Cole, Cyrus) get massively outshined by the All Star. But on the other hand, when they do it well, it's super amazing (Eliana and Alex)
