Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I dunno. You know what else was different this season? Lack of career-threatening injury! I strongly think this was due to the choreo.

Truth. Last season, it felt like they were choreographing to push the All-Stars, which pushed the regular kids right off their feet in many cases. I hope they find a middle ground where it's exciting to watch, but not because it's impossible to actually do.

I do think Nakul pushed too far in the routine that got Alex sent home with all those crazy leaps in second, but overall I don't think the kids get hurt because the choreographers ask the them to do too much in any one routine. The kids really start getting injured when it gets down into it and they are being asked to do two routines a week (or more) plus group routines and prep a solo just in case they wind up in B3. And dancing the same routines a million times a week on tour or on Broadway is not the same as learning and dancing new routines each week often in styles you are not familiar with which ask your body to move in ways that don't feel natural. I think that more than choreographers making routines too hard, there's just too much darn dancing on this dance show. Of course, I guess I have to blame myself for that because I want these kids to dance, dance, dance. I feel like the dancing demon in OM,WF now. Tragic!

And this year, I didn't find the choreography substantially less difficult than in year's past (at least from a technical standpoint). It was just worse. Kind of uninspired and a retread from a lot of the veteran choreographers of better routines we've seen from them in the past. (I'm looking at you, Sonya! No more woman-on-shoulder-legs bent lifts. Please let it go)

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I don't want harder choreography, I really just want more variety. There was an awful lot of contemporary (and things called other styles that still looked an awful lot like contemporary) this season. My favorite moments are when a ballroom dancer crushes hip hop or the like and there just weren't a lot of opportunities to see that. Or so it seemed to me.

So much this. Curse, NappyTab and their lyrical hip hop. Now every hip hop routine is more like contempo-hop, with lots more contempo than anything else. And is there a difference between Contemporary (which in and of itself is a made up, competition genre) and jazz anymore on this show? I don't think so. Even Bollywood is now more Contempo-wood. Or Bolly-po. Or something. I'd love to see more ballroom come back and a return to real hip hop and jazz on this show.

I also want to see other styles of dance represented amongst the contestants. I feel like I say this every year, but this year felt more contemporary dancer heavy than ever. And the non-contempo kids were gone in a heartbeat. Wadi, Nick, Iveta, Robert. Nobody except Tadd got even a whiff of the top 10. Boo.

Because books.

That's why I asked about the paso doble a few days ago. I loved this season, but the choreography/styles didn't seem as varied as in the past.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

There was a LOT of contemporary. Which, until they weeded out the less stellar dancers, meant hair-flinging and HMV as major components.

But I miss it. With SYTYCD and Master Chef finished, I'm kind of at loose ends. sigh ... suppose I'll have to make do. (No, really, I don't need another TV addiction. Honestly.)

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

Bryce's was the worst of the bunch. Even if the hem had been well made, it still would've been ugly.

I thought for sure that he was gone. Julie's garment had issues, but there was some thought and a plan and a design. His was just ugly and badly made.

The hem looked like a very inexperienced sewer did it. It was all thick and hung horribly. The collar on Julie's dress was just ugh but at least you could see what she was going for. I agree that the winning outfit was a LOT of shiny gold for daytime, and I'm not a big fan of the asymmetrical portion of the top, but Nina did wear it pretty well.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

I liked the winning outfit this week so much more than last week, but I still haven't found a designer yet this season that makes me think, "Wow he/she is amazingly talented!" They've mostly been boring.
