Non-Fiction TV: I Reject Your Reality and Substitute My Own

Because books.

Aren't the results live, too? Aside from the entirely bizarre way Nigel pronounced "saxophonist", Clarence Clemons had the stroke and was admitted to the hospital days ago, not yesterday, so that was just ... wrong.

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

Yes, he made it sound like it had just happened.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I don't have anything to add that hasn't been said, but:

- I will now only say saxophonist like Nigel did.
- I also think it's funny that Sasha and Alexander are together, name-wise.
- I wish they had just booted Robert, and was I hearing Nigel whispering, "He's not dancing" over the second solo, or am I crazy?
- I will also make heart hands at you people.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

But really: Good LORD. Since I got home from work, I've watched two hours of The Voice, three of SYTYCD, and one of Top Chef. It was grueling! And actually only took like four hours, so maybe it was a good strategy anyway...

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

The Style Channel has been showing S1 of Make me a supermodel.

I really do miss this show.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Aw, me too. Actual modeling! Limited screaming! Bromance!

SYTYCD:

So, I watched most of this in a hotel room and didn't make any notes, and went to sleep before the end. But now I'm rewatching, and then I'ma go read the 90-some-odd messages in thread! My goodness.

I'm having a hard time remembering who any of these people are. I guess that's why they're doing the intros?

Jordan/Tad (African Jazz "Riding The Waves-AfroCelt Sound System"): Jordan wants to be a Pussycat Doll? I'm both unsurprised and disappointed. Also disappointed by the fake "tribal" tattoos on them. I know that's costuming but...ugh. I do like a lot of this dance, though a few times they don't look like they're doing it best. And I have no idea what it has to do with lava. (OMG, yay TiVo, I am fast forwarding through Mary Murphy!)

Sasha/Alexander (Contemporary "Stupid-SarahMcLachlan") I admit, I do tend to like things better when I like the music. And I love Peanut. Some of this choreo is cheesy, but some of it is great. I really like the kick him to the floor at the end, it looked great. I like her, not sure how I feel about him.

Clarice/Jess (Broadway "Me and My Baby-Liza Minelli" ) OK, really? Think this was rigged much? I feel bad, because every time I hear her name I think of Hannibal Lecter. And he just seems so fake? Why does she not have shoes on? He's good at what he does, but...let's see him do something else.

Ryan/Ricky (Lyrical HipHop "Ain't No Sunshine - Lighthouse Family") There's cheer music? OMG I hate her so 90s outfit. I like him a lot better than her, and was totally wondering why she was smiling in this and glad the judges called her out on it.

Caitlynn/Mitchell (Jazz "In For the Kill -La Roux" ) Dude, good luck not getting kicked off. Injured on the first day?? She has great legs when he's flinging her around

Miranda/Robert (Latin "Runaway Baby - Bruno Mars" ) JIVE?? So someone doesn't like them? Wait, jive is latin?!?! OK, whatev. Well, this is a better jive than we've usually seen on the show, in the parts where they're jiving. Some of the arm stuff in the "latin" parts is not looking comfortable. But this could've sucked.

Missy/Wadi (Jazz "Judas - Lady Gaga") So, we get two jazz and an African jazz? Really? He's great at what he does, but in some of the partnering looks weak or awkward (some looks good--he at least can lift with his muscles, unlike, say, Jess!)

Melanie/ Marko (Contemporary "Turn to Stone - Ingrid Michaelson" ) Again, rigged much? I love the choreo, how they're moving so deliberately and statue-like before the part where they're running around. And I think they danced it great. Yay.

Ashley/Chris (HipHop "Forget You - CeeLo") Someone make that boy shave the chinscruff. And I didn't love this. Because of the dancing or the choreo, dunno.

Iveta/Nick (Ballroom "Ballroom Blitz - Sweet") OK, now I just want to see next week when people have to actually dance something new to them. Yeesh.

OK, now for the results show!

Ooh, I quite like this top 20 dance. Love the costumes too. Sonya, huh? Interesting.

Wow, so even when done well, America hates jive? And apparently, even when done well, I hate gopak. Is he supposed to look like he's an ass showing off?

Michell: I like that his dance seemed to have a little choreo/with the music to it, rather than just "OMG LET ME DO TRICKS" Jordan: Damn, you do want to be a pussycat doll, chica. Well, I'm sure Robin is watching. Tad: Eh. That style never does much for me. Clarice: Why does she have toilet paper stuck in her underwear? Meh. Jess: Dislike the choice of song, but it's a good solo (could've ended on a bigger note, but entertaining) Miranda: A little too orgasmic for my liking, but less obnoxious than Jordan's. Robert: WTF is the boy wearing? Fringe?? But cute dance, if not the best hiphop we've ever seen.

OMG, Lady Gaga will be guest judging? That's awesome.

And the judges kick off....(Oh good grief kick someone off already!) WHAT?? Good lord.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Is he supposed to look like he's an ass showing off?

Heh. Pretty much, yeah, that's the dance. I've seen it done better, though, more interesting choreography I mean.

IIRC, Jive is Latin and Tango is Ballroom. I remember because it's confusing, which means I could easily be remembering it wrong.

I feel bad, because every time I hear her name I think of Hannibal Lecter.

OMG, that's so true. She was born after that movie came out, right?

meara - Jun 18, 2011 8:02:02 pm PDT #17043 of 23273

I am making heart hands at kat and Liese. Love your commentaries. Love that kat says the things I'm thinking in actual dance words instead of "it was good but there was this bad part!"

but part of that is she reminds me a little of our meara - small, short dark hair. But she can dance (meara can too - she just hasn't done so on national TV).

Hah! Aww. I WISH I could dance anything close to that! Though I'd love if some two-steppers got up and showed how the one two step they've done on this show was ASS, much like they just tried to do with that Russian guy. Or hell, some of the boys I West Coast Swing with every Friday--there's two of them, one used to be a ballroom professional and one is an ice skating teacher? And those boys sex the floor UP....which is so much better than what Benji does, even if it's the same dance.

Jess is about the same size as Tadd? Huh

Yeah, I saw that on one of the earlier shows, and was surprised, after all the "Jess is so short!" stuff they were putting out (well, he IS, but to then not say Tadd is too...)

Lady Gaga – No Mark in the video = no love from me

I totally thought this! I was like 'Wait, no Mark? Fast forwarding now...."

But really: Good LORD. Since I got home from work, I've watched two hours of The Voice, three of SYTYCD, and one of Top Chef. It was grueling! And actually only took like four hours, so maybe it was a good strategy anyway...

I know, I was just thinking I'm watching SO MUCH summer TV! But there's only a couple more episodes of The Voice.

The Style Channel has been showing S1 of Make me a supermodel.

I caught an ep the other day and was all "Aww!" I loved that show, why didn't they ever do it again?!? The bromance was so cute, and the girls were so interesting (unlike top model)

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Yeah, Clarice is 19 and the movie came out 20 years ago, so.
