So I caught the finale of ABDC (I had only seen the first 2-3 episodes of the season, missed about 5-6 episodes and I caught the finale on Sunday. A few things:
1) It was incredibly irritating to watch the finale because of all the commercials and they broke up the finale with segments of the red carpet from the MTV Movie Awards. WTF?
2) I think the show is now catering to 10 year olds. The only people of note who spoke as an introduction to the previous winners from every season were the youngest members of the two groups, which was saying something since one of the groups was a kid group. I don't mind hearing what a 10-year-old and a 15-year-old have to say from time to time, but the winners from previous seasons (especially season 1) were AWESOME and I don't need some damn kids to tell me that. The over-reliance on hearing the kids voices almost exclusively really put me off. What is the demo of MTV now? Is it pre-teeners?
3) relatedly, the 2 in the finales - one was decent (but probably would not have won any other year), the other, the boy group was not very good at all. There are groups of boys that age who can really dance (hell, the youngest dancers in Diversity who won Britain's Got Talent 2 years ago could blow these fellas away) but I was not impressed by their finale performance.
The Voice: Oh Christina, honey, No. Just No. It's time to find a new costume person, Stat.
Dear lord--I just turned on the Voice (had to give time so I can ff through commercials) and wow....both of those things! Awful outfit on Christina, and...CeeLo has eyes?
So far I am not impressed by the performances...I don't like Jersey Girl, and that song was...not very melodic? So hard to say she sounded good. And Blake's guy looks ridiculous with black lamé around his head instead of a bandana (not that the bandana is a great look either--dude, I understand you want a signature look but yeesh). The song was more appropriate for him, though.
I'm still freaked out by CeeLo not wearing sunglasses.
Agree on the first two, but I was happy with Beverly and loved Dia.
Dia was great. Our game during this episode is spotting the non-compliment compliment. My favorite is now "that was really good because I know where you started with that song" (for the first truly terrible performance).
OK, I did like the Lady Marmalade performance....mostly for Beverly. :)
I find the "we're making them tweet backstage" a bit odd.
And Dia has a really cool unique voice, but now I feel the need to listen to that Kanye song and her version one after another because I didn't even recognize it! Interesting.
And I really like Xenia--she was terrible the last show, so I'm hoping she does better and kicks ass. And she's doing pretty well, but still doesn't really look comfy and at HOME on stage...that said, she's in high school. And I'd rather watch/hear her than Jersey Girl. And she just looks so cute and adorable and appropriately young.
I'm kinda shocked at myself--I want to call and vote for several people! Now I'm like 'wait, how does this work? how many will be voted off? Eek!"
For a second I looked at this Lily girl and thought she was kinda big. And then I thought fer chrissake, media has completely messed up my perceptions--she's probably a freakin' size six, and that looks big next to how skinny girls on TV are supposed to be. Sad. Not that I super loved the performance, she doesn't do it for me.
(Still catching up to real time)
I'm kind of bummed that two people from each team go through no matter what. So unfair to great teams like Adam's. I hope that once they're down to eight it's individual eliminations.
And they totally could have done wild cards with this format.
How tall is Blake Shelton? It's like he has a team of munchkins.
