Non-Fiction TV: I Reject Your Reality and Substitute My Own
This thread is for non-fiction TV, including but not limited to reality television (So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef: Masters, Project Runway), documentaries (The History Channel, The Discovery Channel), and sundry (Expedition Africa, Mythbusters), et al. [NAFDA]
Mollee might want to be an actress. I can see it. Sadly, the personality remark was one she made about why she wanted people to like her on this show, So You Think You Can Dance. And I know it's America's favorite dancer and blah, blah, blah personality-cakes. It's just maybe if she'd focused on dancing well and not being a hair flinging nightmare with the exception of last night (or had a better personality?) she'd have made it to the end. The best dancer of the season, in my opinion, has never won this show. But neither has the dancer who was mainly liked for his/her personality. (Some may argue Benji in S2 was like that, but that fool could dance. Still should've been Travis, but Benji was definitely more than personality)
SYTYCD: Pissed about Ashleigh, but at least that means no more Mollee. I was scared about Ellenore for a minute.
This should make for a good finale. Although, I wasn't thrilled with last season's (except for the paso doble).
On the other hand, I was cleaning off my DVR this past weekend and I'm not sure this season has had more dances I'll be saving than last season. I don't know if it's the choreographers, the pairings, or what, but not a lot stands out for me this year (despite thinking that this season's dancers were probably better overall).
Top Chef: I'm happy that I think everyone who was there in the finals deserved it, but bummed it couldn't have been Kevin, or Bryan at the very least.
And yes, it did feel rushed. The knife-draw sous-chef was almost as sucky as letting people vote for Ashleigh.
I just realized my favorite dance this season wasn't even done by the contestants! It was by LXD! (Though Ellenore and Jacob's Sonya dance is close).
Sooo happy that Jacob and Kathryn made it through! I voted for both of them, and that was the first time I ever voted!
TC: I realized I was fine with any of those 3 winning, because even though I thought Michael was an asshat, he was a damn fine chef. (Just like when Hung won.)
On SYTYCD, I don't think the show really had a choice about letting Ashleigh stay in the competition--they let Noelle stay when she was injured at the very start, and it sounded at the time like that was an established rule.
The voters, on the other hand--WTF?
TC: Man, what I wouldn't have given to have Michael have drawn Robin's knife.
Seriously, though, why bring back EVERYBODY? Why not just the last six?
My guess is they were hoping someone would draw Robin so there would be more drama!
While Kevin got sucky sous chefs, I'm not sure they were to blame for the choice of just having pork belly on that dish.
True. Preeti's slowness on the prep day wasn't the reason his pork belly wasn't tender enough, and that's what killed his shot.
Tom C's face during that course was like granite. It's been pointed out on several food blogs that I read that Kevin's food most closely resembles Tom C's own cooking style (almost all of his dishes would be at home at Craft or Grammercy Tavern), and I think he was really pulling for him to win.
yeah, the sous-chef set up was crazy. And the zillion twists- I liked it better when it was "The challenge is simple. Cook us the best meal of your life."
Also, with the moms being there, I smell production monkeying with the BROTHERS TO THE LAST MINUTE. I mean, has anyone been told "you are NOT Top Chef" and asked to leave the room? So that it's Brother v Brother to see who won? Yeeeaahhh.
The couple of times Kevin had an issue with his pork, it was because he didn't have all day to cook, right? That's a bummer, because I can see him thinking about what are his best dishes, realizing they are the ones that cook all day to eat at dinner, and trying to make them work anyway.
