I think NappyTabs ran out of ideas in the year 2000. I absolutely HATED that routine and saw no point in it.

Non-Fiction TV: I Reject Your Reality and Substitute My Own
This thread is for non-fiction TV, including but not limited to reality television (So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef: Masters, Project Runway), documentaries (The History Channel, The Discovery Channel), and sundry (Expedition Africa, Mythbusters), et al. [NAFDA]
I think a prerequisite of being a good Bollywood dancer is being a good hip-hopper or krumper. Russell was on point for that puppy; I've never seen crisper, cleaner moves and Bollywood is really demanding that way. Excellent job!
Tonight was really good overall, save that NappyTab number--blech. I blame the choreographers, though, and not the dancers (although Ellenore could have hit her moves harder).
SailAweigh, what you just said about Kathryn is so true! Also, I think that the partnering thing works for Jakob, as well. He made Ashleigh look terrific throughout the first half, and has made his partner look equally great the last two weeks, all while making sure his own skills are not hidden. That waltz with Mollee was the best I've seen on this show, and that Broadway number was really well done, just so far about anything that Tyce puts out in his attempts at Broadway.
Disco. Ugh. And a horrible song for it. The pace of the song didn’t match the choreography at all. I’m worried that Kathryn got paired with Ryan, but boy that girl can move her body.
And f*ck. Mollee gets Jakob?!? At least they got waltz. I liked the choreography okay, except for the way she was holding up her arms, which I assume was intentional but looked clumsy. And wow, SYTYCD, way to ruin Vanessa Carlton for me.
So I guess Travis Wall watched Mr & Mrs Smith on cable recently? Liked the dance though.
ETA: Good to see Cat acknowledge the reference.
That waltz with Mollee was the best I've seen on this show
I totally agree. I do not care for Mollee at all, but I thought she and Jakob were just perfect in that waltz.
Still not getting the judges' love affair with Mollee. Especially since I really saw for the first time what someone said earlier about her being like a sack of potatoes on lifts.
But she has gotten better for me so I think she should stay over Ashleigh. Would they really let someone who didn't perform through? That really sucks. But, since they set the precedent with Noelle, I guess they have to.
So I guess I'm hoping that the married couple both go home.
I appreciate that they showed her rehearsal moves, so that people at least got a sense of her knowing the moves.
Wow, how much do I love Russell! I could watch him forever.
Cat Deeley needs to really get right with Fashion Jesus. Gold lame romper? Oh, Cat.
Y'all, Jakob is magic. He actually made the Tween Terror bearable and even kinda good in that Broadway number. How did he do it? I thought they killed that number. (And the piece was much better than what Joey put down for Evan/Randi last season, but I still wasn't wild about it. And I'm so, so glad that Unca Nigel called out the Faux Fosse. Fosse is not the only Broadway choreographer, which only Spencer Liff really seems to get) As much as I in general dislike Mollee, she deserves to stay over Ashleigh.
And on the real, if you don't dance, you should have to take your broke broke home. And it stretches back past Noelle, all the way to Jesse in S3 when she got to dance for her life after missing the cha cha(?) with Pasha and he wound up dancing with Melanie. It frustrates me to no end. This is a competition. If you can't compete, you go home. I don't understand what is difficult about that.
Kathryn is absolutely magnificent. And Ryan is maybe the strongest partner they have ever had on the show. (Pasha was good, too) I got over Doriana's disco a loong time ago, but that disco had more dance content than her dances have had in a long while. It wasn't just a trick factory. And no cunniliftus in sight, the gods be praised. Ryan and Kathryn's cha cha was just dead sexy. Kathryn's legs are incredible. Talk about Anne Reinking. Yeah, it's not Mollee.
Leave it to NappyTab to deliver the sole clunker routine of the night. They are really just terrible. And I hope Shane put a foot in that ass for biting on his backwards mask routine for Travis and Donyelle in S2. And I hope Travis continued the beating after Shane was done. Y'all, they can't even steal from their betters correctly. The routine was tired and they had two dancers that can absolutely bring it in hip hop. What a wasted opportunity. Travis Wall is . . . what can I say? Travis Frikkin' Wall. I loved that routine. Ellenore is fearless. She's a dance warrior.
But Russell. Russell has my heart. He dances with so much joy. It's infectious. The hip hop was murder. I miss Shane so, so much. I miss real hip hop so, so much. Real hip hop, y'all. It's been too long. The assistant was kind of half assing it, but I didn't care. Russell blew me away in that Shane Sparks number. Now that's how you use an iconic song strongly associated with a SYTYCD couple up there in the pantheon and completely destroy with it, Legacy. I hope you were taking notes. He was also captivating in the Bollywood. I totally agreed with Nigel that I couldn't take my eyes off him even though he was dancing with a seasoned pro. And shirtless Russell? All day long.
My Top 6 would be Kathryn/Ellenore/Mollee. FP has grown on me over the course of the season and Ryan's plea was affecting (Damn you, DiLellos!) but the whole situation is just unfair. You shouldn't get a pass into the finals. For the guys, it's so tough because they are all good and they all danced well tonight. I've gotta go with Russell and Jakob, but it's really close between Legacy and Ryan. As much as I like Legacy's story, though, Ryan is the better, more complete dancer. I would keep him over Legacy. I wouldn't have thought so, but damn if he wasn't crazy good tonight and a perfect partner for Kathryn.
Cat needs to burn that outfit and salt the earth. Heinous.
