What do you call the thing we use here in the US, that is not the Metric system. English, right? As in, stuff can be in Metric units or English units?

I've heard it called English or Standard.
Swooping in to wish Cass a Happy Birthday (or rather, I hope she had one)!!
Went down to Dad's for the day. He ended up having a good day--all the kids/stepkids called, he got together with everyone who's in the area either today, yesterday, or tomorrow, we went to his favorite restaurant, and his favorite NASCAR driver won today's race.
He did give me some money to get a new mattress set, and he told me that if I haven't bought it by the next time he comes up to my place sometime in the next month, he's not giving another penny ever, so I guess I'd better use it for a new bed. I'd been meaning to pick one up with next year's tax refund, but like Dad said, I said that about this year's refund, which ended up going to bills instead. So, I'm going to test sleep mattresses this week and do some comparison shopping so I can get the best deal possible.
Any suggestions on good mattresses?

I took a hex bolt to a hardware store, looking to get an allen wrench for it. I told the guy, "I think it's English." That totally confused him. So I said, "You know, not Metric." And he says, "Oh, you mean American."
I'm not going to call it American. That's not what is is. (Happens to be what we use here, but still....)
And it turned out I was wrong - it was Metric.
I call the system Imperial.
Thanks, Lee. I'll tell him you said so, in case he wonders where the remnants of his life went.
Reading a discussion on chronic pain in LJ. Life sucks. Also it isn't fair. Good thing there is chocolate.

Hey, it was your idea!
I call the system Imperial.
Oh yeah. Except that's still another system, at least when it comes to liquids. An Imperial gallon is five quarts. They used to sell gas that way in Canada.
I think it's more fun to ask than to google. Because then we can guess....

so, now I'm wondering how many gallons it takes to fill up a Death Star.
