Speaking of guys making out, I was reading the EW interview with Brad Pitt and George Clooney, and they were teasing us again by talking about the first time they met--
"It was at the bathhouses, right?"
"Yeah, you were wearing that leather mask..."
Finally, I had a dream that I actually remembered this morning, and I know it was a very unrealistic dream since it was about (a) me shopping for shoes and actually enjoying the process, and (b) me finding a pair of 4-inch tall strappy spikes and finding them comfortable.
So, I wonder if the fact that I just overheard my boss having a screaming fight (with her husband, I hope) will affect (effect? I can never get that right!) our 2:30 meeting?
Phew. Mostly I just reframe the sentence.
Affect is a verb most of the time, and effect is a noun most of the time.
Ah -- excellent. Maybe I can actually keep that straight now? Because I know for sure to talk about a person's flat affect, or whatever.
Or to put it another way,
Dear Jesse:
It's quite possible this will affect your meeting. I do hope it has the effect you want, and effects a change in the meeting schedule.
