Wash: Well, I wash my hands of it. It's a hopeless case. I'll read a nice poem at the funeral. Something with imagery. Zoe: You could lock the door and keep the power-hungry maniac at bay. Wash: Oh, no, I'm starting to like this poetry idea now. Here lies my beloved Zoe, my autumn flower, somewhat less attractive now she's all corpsified and gross...

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Any idea what is objectionable about a spelling bee?

According to one of the Spelling Bee blogs I've been following, "the contest has drawn a good sized crowd of protesters who are demanding an increase in the number of words that are spelled phonetically. I kid you not."

I reported yesterday (in Bitches, I think) that there was a small group of people outside the hotel protesting the spelling bee. Seemingly, one of them got stabbed a little while ago.

I read here that it's a group for the phonetic spelling of words.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

"I'm useless alone." // "We're all useless alone. It's a good thing you're not alone."

The only thing I can think of during this whole spelling bee thing is "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee."

You've been the best-looking dude we've had all day
You're a real smart dude as well
Now go home and spell
Give your squeeze some affection
Go on, make a connection
Spell with patience and care
That, dude, is my prayer.

Re: lj, didn't the "We screwed up" message say that some journals would be reinstated "by noon" (no clue which time zone)? Yeah....fun.

three Canadians as the only foreigners amongst the finalists.

I'm betting on Anqi Dong as being there in the end.

The 12 year old in me must note that besides Mr. Dong, one of the other two left has the last name Wang.

Trust my rage

I think it's funny that some people care enough about phonetic spelling to actually protest. It's like that West Wing episode where Josh and CJ meet the upside down map people.

Bahahahahah! protesting the spelling. I love people.

I'm not a spelling bee fan, but it would be nice if students could remember that excited is spelled with a C. Or that a lot is two separate words.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Or that a lot is two separate words.

A friend of mine has an English degree. She didn't know this (and didn't believe me when I told her).
