I went to a panel discussion by executive recruiters, which sounds like it will be a good fallback for me if the networking thing doesn't work out. (They do handle IT jobs, fwiw.)
Other than that, I've been diving into
A Song of Ice And Fire
all the way through again, which is bringing out a lot of things that I didn't notice or remember.

A friend just lent me the very first book (I've never read any of them), "Game of Thrones" (right?). The hivemind at work!
I am trying to fax a 112 page document. WTF? Have none of you people heard of .pdfs?
Wow, Liese. Things are really moving forward!
Our family reunion is this summer in Chicago, which I am totally jazzed about. We are going, all 45 or so of us, to a Cubs game, renting a trolley for a tour of the city, and much other cool stuff.
That sounds so awesome!
Damnit, Jim! I'm a chef, not a [insert other job here].
Ha! I loved his reaction when Padma said "Quickfire."
When I ran out of children's songs when the kids were babies, I used to sing the themes to the Brady Bunch and Gilligan's Island and Cheers.
Cute! When I ran out of songs, I made them up. My biggest hits were, Baby Store; Give up the Bubble in Your Tummy; and Dancin' Dancin [Child's Name] is Dancin'. My no-fail standby though, was Bruce Springsteen's Thunder Road.
Maybe they'll be well-behaved, placid, non-destructive toddlers.
What?
If we could use icons here, I'd be using my "dreams" one, right now.
One of my nephews has perfect pitch and began to ask those of us who don't to stop singing to him at about age two. He'd reach out with his wee fingers, cover my mouth and say, "No, Tante Bess!"
Goth_Macros on LJ are making me laugh and laugh and laugh. Particularly this one (work safe!)
I used to babysit a kid named Nicky who was going through some separation anxiety, and for a few weeks, the only way that I could calm him was to sing Toni Basil's "Oh Mickey" with "Nicky" instead of "Mickey."
Kat, those shoes are adorable. Glad to hear Noah and Grace are coming along.
I have memories of my mother singing to me when I was very young - the only ones I remember were "The Old Rugged Cross" and one about "sleep Kentucky baby".
And in regard to the Cuba Gooding Cialis ad, did anyone see this?
Mandalay Bay is my favorite hotel and I miss Vegas sooooo much.

Also, I'd give anyone in LA $1000 for them to go to Sprinkles and get me a lemon-coconut cupcake and a black and white cupcake and send them to me here in Michigan.
Any takers?
