See, I agree that boys need to be let out to do stuff that burns off their energy, being hard work or simply running their minds out or playing baseball or something. I think a lot of ADHD is simply engines that can't shift up to that extra gear and use all the power they've got.
But there's nothing inherently noble/spiritual/Christain about it.
And contrasting the two stories makes me sick. Boys get to dream and experiment. Girls need to learn to be happy multitasking homemakers.

Dammit, if she wants to live on a farm and raise lots of kids and do the Waltons thing, more power to her! Just don't tell me that I should be doing it too.

Really. Between 2 pregnancies and nursing for a few years I was sleep deprived for about 5 years and nearly lost my mind. 17 years of sleep dep, yikes.
It is the contrast that makes it hard to swallow. I grew up in house with all girl children. So it never occurred to me that a girl wouldn't learn about mowing the lawn, or a boy wouldn't learn to cook. Or that there were any limits on what I could do
I grew up in a house of mostly boys, and I learned the same things.
Mom and dad wanted all of us to have a basic skill set for life, no matter what we did.
