Spike's Bitches 36: Did I Sully Our Good Name?

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

Small world! (But I wouldn't want to paint it)

There is also an Atlantic Monthly article about the more troubling aspects of the extreme cases, the ones who turn scam baiting into a full time hobby -- basically that the mostly white scam baiters end up with tropy rooms full of photos of black people humiliating themselves.

I'm digging this Atlantic Monthly article but I think

"Are the scam-baiters Jedi-like cyber-guardians taking up arms against the Web’s Dark Side, Spam-scam, or are they cyber-vigilantes engaging in vicious pranks that can, at times, border on racism?"

is a bit of an understatement. I have read more than one scam-baiting tale that was quite blatantly racist. Still I have a hard time empathizing with the "victims."

Our wings are not tired.

No time to bait scammers. I'm totally bored with the constant interest in enlarging my penis. The emails with the random text still kinda amuses.

It was a mixed bag weekend. The low point was backing up my van and suddenly dropping into a pit. Apparently a few inches below the surface was the septic tank and the zillion year old lid collapsed. I was going to have AAA deal with it, but my nephew took it as a personal challenge to get it out. He and my step-dad managed the task. [link]

The weather was lovely and I enjoyed the woods and lake. I'm having a bit of a time with my son. He sits on his computer all of the time and doesn't want to do anything. He won't go out and enjoy himself. I try and convince him to go and meet the other teens forced to come to Otter Lake against their will, but he would rather sulk. He likes his Florida friends. Doesn't need or want other friends. I grew up with summer friends and school year friends and didn't feel I was being disloyal. Frustrated with him. I even blocked his internet, but now he just plays video games. Blah. Kids.

Good morning!

Mostly lurking...

Oh, dear, Laura. I'm glad you're ok. Also, ugh with the frustrating kids. And good morning back!

Ugh, Laura. I'm glad they got the van out without damage, but you must have been pretty worried at first. And give the kid a bop on the head for me. He should be so lucky to be going with his folks to a cool place. I didn't get to go on any of my folks camping trips until I was eleven. It was a sign of being gown up to me and I loved every minute of them.

Our wings are not tired.

I loved going to the lake for the summer when I was his age. It was like I was 2 different people with 2 different sets of friends and experiences. Summer romance ahoy! My take on it is that he feels he is being disloyal to his friends if he makes new friends some place else. I've been able to get him to play basketball but he hasn't really socialized with the ballplayers either.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

Remember this post of mine on Friday? Aimée "Spike's Bitches 36: Did I Sully Our Good Name?" Jul 20, 2007 2:04:48 pm PDT

I mentioned it to Boss and told him just how creepy this guy was. Boss was kind of suspicious of him because he's not our usual tenant at one of our properties, so he jokingly said, "Check the sex offender website".

I did and he's there. Convicted of 2nd degree Criminal Sexual Conduct (Person under 13) in 1997. That puts his age at time of conviction at 14, but still. Efffing eww.
