JZ, I use Herbal Essences semi-perm. If you get a color slightly darker than your own (or leave it on a little longer) it'll come out darker and the color will "soften" but it won't wash out as quickly. I use the dark brown. I have about 50% gray and it covers it nicely.

JZ, I've used the Clairol Natural Instincts as a semi-perm (Plei is gonna correct me because it's really a demi and she's right.) and it works nicely. Bits of gray are just starting to show through as highlights and I did mine a few weeks ago. The gray definitely pokes through first. The rest of my hair will likely keep the color another couple months.
Though I'm still all woe-betided that you won't be in SF on this trip.And the irony? I will be in the Bay Area for a few days while SA is "here".

Okay. Gotta get more diapers for Matilda this afternoon, so we'll take a detour to the Hair Stuffs aisle and look over the Natural Instincts and Herbal Essences. If it can cover 50% gray in (IIRC, Zenkitty?) fairly thick, wavy hair, that sounds like a decent texture match for my own.
