[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Trudy, the deal is that I want to get coverage now (ideally some cheap catastrophic) rather than taking COBRA, so I don't want to double-cover myself. Er. If that makes sense.

It does. But how long is the gap?

If it's not too long and you don't have active need for the coverage you can rely on retro-active COBRAing should something go awry.

Have told potential new boss that I would give her a definite answer tomorrow as current boss wants time to find health insurance options.

Emily,

At this point, you may have more than a 60-day gap just given the amount of time it takes for the application process to be complete for self-insurance. I did this about the same time last year and it took awhile to be sure my application was accepted, etc. To be safe, you could just do COBRA for July and apply somewhere else now for coverage starting August 1. If it doesn't look like it will happen quickly, you could then do one more month of COBRA.

Re: pre-exisiting conditions. When I couldn't prove I was covered for the very first month of the previous two-year-period (I was I just didn't have the paperwork saying so), Blue-Cross Blus Shield insisted on a 10-month waiting period for anything related to my pre-exisiting condition.

Emily, I'd get the COBRA, but I'm extra nervous about this kind of stuff.
