Much ~ma for both you and your friend, vw. Perhaps if you pace yourself, you can continue to help. But make sure to take good care of yourself! I'm glad you got yourself a treat.

Yeah, I'm gonna try.

I think I offered to take her to physical therapy. In Framingham. Three times a week. Without a car. Fortunately, that doesn't start for a few weeks, so maybe a better plan can be thought of that doesn't involve me spending $30 on a zipcar each time.

Oh, vw. She goes to your church, right? Surely there's someone there with a car who could help out.

You'd think, but not so much. We live quite a ways away from our church, so any of that type of coordinating is going to be really difficult.

One-car family, I'm assuming? She could see if the physical-therapy place has a shuttle arrangement or something. I'd say back out of it as soon as possible, to avoid unpleasantness later -- say you have the time and energy to devote to helping her, but you were forgetting that you don't have the money. Your eagerness to help got the better of you.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

vw, bless you for even starting, no matter how much more you can or can't do.

When that car is running.

She could see if the physical-therapy place has a shuttle arrangement or something.

They don't. And, they live in Brookline (near Jamaica Way), and the wellness place is in Framingham. She doesn't qualify for The Ride.

I'd say back out of it as soon as possible, to avoid unpleasantness later -- say you have the time and energy to devote to helping her, but you were forgetting that you don't have the money. Your eagerness to help got the better of you.

That never happens. I'm probably going back to take care of her on Tuesday, so the husband can go to work. He's missed a lot lately, and they really can't afford him to miss anymore. I can take my laptop and work while she sobs. I think I may talk to the secretary at church tomorrow to see if there's any way we can set something up to help them with the ride situation, 'cause yeah, I really can't justify that.

First world problem: They don't sell Stephen Colbert's Americone Dream ice cream at the Ben and Jerry stores in scoops. You can only buy it in pints. I want to try it, but I don't want to have a whole pint, because I'm trying to eat more healthy stuff. A scoop of ice cream today is fine; a scoop today and tomorrow and the next few days too isn't.
