Somebody over at TWOP posted that TAR 12 has already been cast and we should get to see it in the Fall and that plans to cast TAR 13 are already in the works. So, even without official renewal news things seem to be clicking along.
Experimental TV: Non-Fiction
This thread is part of an experiment to discern the Buffistas' future interest in television discussion. It will remain open until June 1st, 2007, upon which date there will be spirited debate regarding the infinite possibilities for our board's development. This thread is for non-fiction tv, including but not limited to documentaries and reality shows. [NAFDA]
TAR: Yeah, disappointing.
I think the major problem I'm starting to have is the way challenges are constructed. There's too much that compresses the teams, that eliminates any gain or loss from teams' cleverness & luck or stupidity & bad luck. There's no way to gain a strategic advantage on anybody. Which I know makes for more exciting finishes, but it also makes for a dumb race.
Plus they never have to figure anything out.
I think that the last leg is the worst for this -- they want an exciting race to the finish line but it makes the rest of the episode boring.
I was especially disappointed when time ran out while they were trying to crack the code, and they were simply handed the clue. Give them a penalty! Give them a new task! That was just dumb.
That last challenge was just plain dumb -- what's the point of calling it a challenge if you get the clue whether you solve it or not? The 10-minute time limit was clearly to ensure a footrace to the finish, but it made the challenge competely pointless.

Yeah, it's like only watching the last 2 minutes of a basketball game. It didn't matter what happened in the entirety of the race, it was just a matter of taxiing from the challenge to the finish location and running from there. Which is a stupid way to end the race.
My 10-year-old called getting the clue anyway stupid. His exact quote was "man that's stupid and lame! Why bother making them guess if they get the clue anyway. If it was me, I'd make them do an extra road block" which I couldn't agree more with.
Ty Pennington picked up on DUI charges.
Maybe the TAR people will take a step back and take a little more time before starting the next cycle. I used to love TAR until it started being on ALL the time. It's better to make it good than fast. Then we can put the taint of this season behind us. This is the first season I did not watch by choice.
That season, for me, was the family TAR season. Then I didn't watch it again till this season.
