Morgana, promos are generally fair game, though I thought this one was annoyingly spoilery. (N.b. I am unspoiled, so perhaps everything in the promo happens in the first ten minutes next week!)
Boxed Set, Vol. IV: It's always suicide-mission this, save-the-planet that.
A topic for the discussion of Farscape, Smallville, and Due South. Beware possible invasions of Stargate, Highlander, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect Adult Content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.
Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.
I was very annoyed by the (possible - I'm hoping for misleading editing) spoilerliness of the promos. Although, given the kind of crap that seems to be going down next week, it's a very, very bad time for Dean to have just had a "questioning how much I've given up for this job" moment.
Wow, they are really overplaying the Dean-cries-manly-tears card, aren't they? Although I thought the scene where he first sees Mary was genuinely moving, and I always like watching him question all that he's believed in his whole life.
Kate, I was about to point out the single manly tear rolling down, when I realized that nope, we actually had dual tracks wending their way. Not that he wasn't entitled, but yeah, they are kind of ratcheting up the 'Dean's being emo' card. (Really, Sam had to learn it somewhere.) And I also thought the reunion with Mary was genuinely chill-inducing.
Regarding the promo, I'm pretty sure I saw Ava. AVA!! AVA!! AVA!!!
I too was dratting the Single Perfect Tear just in time to see that there were actually several. So at least we were spared that melodrama.
Also, concur on the excessive heavy-handedness of the music. If you are going to be heavy-handed on this show, you must use Journey! Or Foreigner! None of this violin crap!
I saw Ava in the promo too! Very exciting.
Ahaha, yeah, the Single Perfect Emo Tear kind of loses its power when there are two of them. Followed later by more crying. And several Single Perfect Emo Tears in the episodes preceding.
So, you guys didn't like it?
Because I loved it. I was crying when he was sitting in his old house all "happy" and when he left and then at the end.
And I love the promo -- super excited to see THAT yellow-eyed demon and Ava and Andy.
Oh and I love that one of the pictures in his house was exactly the picture from the liquor ad in the magazine that he was looking through at the end of the episode.
I did like it, sumi. It was OTT in parts, but I did like seeing Dean with Mary and Wishverse!Sam and Jess (his overexuberant embrace of Jess was sweet and felt very satisfying -- I would have liked to see the two of them interact more).
I liked it muchly. It just took me about 20 minutes to stop watching from the hall due to my cringe issues. The last scene with Real!Sam and Dean was heartwrenching. Dean just seemed so, so tired.
I didn't hate it; I did think it was a bit draggy and a bit obvious. As with several episodes, it seemed to need 1 more subplot to avoid drawing out every single nuance in the text. I like for there to be some things left unsaid, you know? Also, this show has a bad tendency to resolve the villain at 9:42, leaving several looooong minutes of "So, are you okay about [significant flashback/dooming monsters to hell/stomping up and down the streets of Tokyo with scaly feet]?"
Joss has spoiled me for a good emotional arc in which it's not all explained step by step.
