A topic for the discussion of Farscape, Smallville, and Due South. Beware possible invasions of Stargate, Highlander, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect Adult Content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.
Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.
I've read complaints on LJ about RTD killing the
fat and black
characters, but he killed the
nice
characters, pretty much. The least
likeable two
(one very much so)
were the ones that survived.
That's no accident. I am more reticent than most
to ascribe racism to casting decisions and who dies and who lives, it seems, but this struck me as something totally different from the black guy not making it to the end of the horror movie.
I mean, if
black people *never* die, the kittens have won, and it's still racist
out there.
According to this blog Universal HD is going to be playing ALL of BSG starting in January. (The blogger saw a promo to that effect.) Has anyone else heard this?
British promo for Torchwood, Series 2 - and over on TWOP they say that it's going to start in the UK on the 17th - but it's still kind of up in the air.
Also, I haven't been over to the BBCA site but somebody thought that they were in the midst of re-doing it.
Oh yeah - very much agree with ita on that one. I have to say it didn't actually ping me at all from that point of view - other than to be rather pleased to see another
multiracial relationship.
I definitely didn't think
the black guy was doomed for being black.
ita, not that my bullshit meter is necessarily trustworthy on these matters, but I have to agree. It really did feel like a
kill-off-the-likable-characters moment that was color blind.
A number of characters
bought the farm, and one of them happened to have dark skin
.
I think the new Dr. Who series
has more color-blind cred than almost anything that's shot in the US. Well, maybe excepting Grey's Anatomy, but when I happen across that the only color I see is red
.
Me neither.
ION, I am indoctrinating a friend in Farscape. So we hung out and watched Farscape alot over break. ALOT. Man, I love it even more.
(It's so cool that she's so into it. . . and she's getting her family into it too.)
And I realized that I had somehow never seen Liars, Guns and Money Part 1. How the heck did I miss that?
David Tennant on Top Gear.
