I don't want to spoil any details on the off chance that somebody might actually enjoy watching, but people who are on the fence about the show might want to wash their hair or something when the 4th episode airs.

Boxed Set, Vol. IV: It's always suicide-mission this, save-the-planet that.
A topic for the discussion of Farscape, Smallville, and Due South. Beware possible invasions of Stargate, Highlander, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect Adult Content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.
Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.
I enjoyed Torchwood much more on rewatch, since I knew sort of what to expect. And I would gift-wrap Ianto and take him home if I could.

The end of that episode is what made me want to quit the show for good, though I did watch one more episode afterward.
Just a wee smidge of not-taking-ourselves-TOO-seriously would have gone down a treat. (I was surprised, as it's one of the things I love best about Dr Who is the ability to put forth a serious subject in a not-humourless manner.)
Totally, fialka. I was expecting something much more...different.
I adore Ianto.
I'm just saying.
It's...I think what I love about Torchwood is that it IS fanfic. It is trashy, shaggadelic, silly, overblown, angsty fanfic. SET IN WALES!!!!!!
It cannot fare well if I compare it to something like Firefly, which, you know, I fucking love with the big burny hot love of a thousand exploding suns. But...it's Sci Fi. Set in the UK!!! Where people have normal accents and aren't the villain of the week!!!! (Or a Watcher. Or possibly both.)
I do understand people not loving the show, because it's flawed, and finding its feet, and in style/approach it's quite jarringly not like the shiny slick US scifi to which it aspires (UK telly tends to err too much towards the theatrical tradition, whereas US telly tends to be more influenced by cinema, and hence does realism better, much of the time).
But - you have to understand that this is the first new Sci Fi I can remember since Blake's 7 was cancelled, back in the 70s (or possibly the early 80s? I was very wee, anyway. And sad. Very sad that my big gay show was ending in a tragic pile of corpses and treachery and heartbreak...it was an early grooming for Tim and Joss and the wickedness of Fox execs, now I come to think of it).
Anyhoo, yes - Torchwood is silly like a silly thing, which puts it nicely in the tradition of UK genre shows - take a bow, Avengers, Blake's 7, Doctor Who et al. Definitely not everyone's cup of tea.
SET IN WALES!!!!!!
This. Except my Welsh great-great-grandparents were from Anglesey, at the other end of Wales.
Sumi is me. I didn't see it one episode at a time, which sometimes makes a difference with me. I love it. Lots.
And Yay for the new Eureka tonight. Loving it lots too.
I'm last up tonight but I'm on Puerto Rico time so odds are I won't be up to chat.
I'm a bit bummed. It seems the season has past and I haven't seen the final product of many episodes.
What is tonight? Maneater?
C.
The preview looked like it had to do with religion sweeping Eureka due to "miracles".
Tonight's title is "God Is In The Details".
