Sorry, Lee, I didn't go back far enough to look!

Boxed Set, Vol. IV: It's always suicide-mission this, save-the-planet that.
A topic for the discussion of Farscape, Smallville, and Due South. Beware possible invasions of Stargate, Highlander, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect Adult Content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.
Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.
No worries, Aillean.
OK, so... this will probably get caught up in SG-1 talk (which I am so behind on OMG), but...
So I'm getting some Dark Angel from Netflix soon. I started with the entrance of The Ackles (yes, I know, I am cheap and easy), so about season 1 episode 15. What do I need to know to start watching?
The acting is very, very bad. Keep your expectations low and just concentrate on how very, very pretty the young Ackles is.
(This from a woman who still can't bring herself to watch THAT SHOW.)
What do I need to know to start watching?
I blame Micole for making me watch that show. (She had it out from Netflix.) What you need to know is: people take their shirts off a lot. It's a much better show on mute. I believe there is some angst, but really, I couldn't tell you what it is.
Oh, oh - what'shername goes into heat!
(I remember that from advertising when the show was on the air.)

Snerk.
S1 and S2 are effectively different shows.
S2 is a royal mess, with some really fantastic stuff that's pretty much all about the B Plot of how the transgenics deal or do not deal with life in a hostile world after the destruction of Manticore sets them loose on said world, and how it differs depending on if you can pass as pure human or not. There's something deeper there, struggling to get out. At least one episode related to this made me cry like a baby.
Then there's the A Plot, which is part of the anti-sex polemic aspect that makes me shake my head at boggle at James Cameron's Issues or something. Centuries old breeding cult vs. genetically engineered heroes!
The C Plot, the Virus Plot, also ties into that, what with the central romance being forcibly de-sexed and the only real potential rival for it excluded pretty much from the get-go due to assigned sexual relations.
But mostly, what you need to know is that Ackles is shirtless a lot, and this one time, he's even wet! And wears glasses.

Well, that's pretty much what I rented it for, so at least I won't be disappointed on that front.
I own it.
I also own the tie in novels.
I've read so much bad fic in that fandom, it's not even funny.
And considering the amount of fic in that fandom I've read, so little good that I want to cry.
Seriously, there are parts that are stunning. They're just cludged together with the parts that are not.
In the Dark Angel fandom?
Do you think that the quality of writing of the original sets the standard for the quality of the fan fic?
