Also, with the official preview at the end of this week's episode, we can officially speculate on Captain Jack Harkness, as the character was shown.

A topic for the discussion of Farscape, Smallville, and Due South. Beware possible invasions of Stargate, Highlander, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect Adult Content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.
Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.
I'm seriously in need of a hobby.
I thought that all of this WAS your hobby?
(Hee, I'm not reading the Who whitefont -- but I BET I know what it's about.)
Re. the Doctor Who casting spoiler:
So, do I need to finish watching Torchwood season 1 for me to grok the episodes where Captain Jack shows up? 'Cause... uhm, I kind of *violently* loathed what I've seen of Torchwood and I'd rather not revisit the show unless it's necessary. Maybe I can just watch the final two-parter...?
that's actually not the casting spoiler i was referring to, but i'm excited about it too.
to answer your question, Vonnie, i doubt it. not that i've read more than casting spoilers. but Torchwood was pretty standalone from DW except for the random mentions here and there.
S3 Dr. Who: Thanks for the link, Daniel. So I guess that if there are posters saying "Vote Saxon", it makes sense that Martha's mum would know who he is.
SGA: Oh, noes, the Ancients have somehow given one of our heroes mental powers but it's GOING TO KILL HIM!
Okay, so Merlin wasn't killing Daniel by being in him, but isn't it The Fifth Race (you know the one I mean) without anything else interesting to say?
Thanks, tiggy! That's a relief. And now that I look back, I sort of see which casting spoiler you guys were talking about. I'm excited about that one, too!
Yeah, Vonnie, no need to inflict Torchwood on yourself just for that.
And yes, now that he's been in the trailer too we can finally talk about John Simm! I was very happy to see him, especially flashing that delicious smile, which he didn't nearly get the chance to do often enough on Life on Mars.
In fact, the whole trailer was extremely appetite-whetting; I'm really looking forward to the rest of the season. This one's been enjoyably consistant so far, for me.
I thought the last episode was good too, mainly because of Mark Gatiss. And also because of reversing the polarity, and going up to 11.
Dr. Who: WTF, that was John Simm??? I totally didn't recognize him!
t checks video
Oh, I thought you meant the guy whispering into Martha's Mum's ear. I assumed that was Saxon, not John Simm in the promo.
Who!
Captain Jack! John Simm! YAYE.
I didn't think that the dude talking to Martha's mom was Saxon. I thought it was a Saxon lackey, or someone from Torchwood, who told Martha that this was from Saxon. Because if it was Saxon, that's a lame-o way to introduce a character. And it couldn't have been, realistically, because everyone would have been mobbing the political candidate. Also, Saxon wasn't just mentioned in casting spoilers. They've been name-dropping him and showing posters and props on the set since the first episode of the season, not unlike Bad Wolf and Torchwood.
That trailer freaking ROCKED. It was just, boom boom boom, awesome awesome awesome. Two weeks! I don't want to wait.
Vonnie, you don't have to watch Torchwood to understand the new Who eps. There wasn't more than a passing reference on TW itself about Jack leaving, so it shouldn't be an issue. I have to say, I really disliked TW for about the first five episodes, but I kept watching because, well, I do that sort of thing. And it started to get better as it went along. The season finale made be both squee and weep in equal measures, which was far more than I expected. So it might be worth giving it another chance just for the 2-part season finale.
