Spike's Bitches 35: We Got a History

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

I know my own heart and understand my fellow man. But I am made unlike anyone I have ever met. I dare to say I am like no one in the whole world. - Anne Lister

Gloom, are there any parameters for types of books you're looking for or want to avoid?

Moved from press: Connie, I don't think we want anything that glorifies violence or gangs. Those subjects are okay, just not something that says, "Yay blood!" For the record, the kids I've been in contact with love poetry, graphic novels, horror, and "books about gangbanging." They always ask for the Tupac poetry book.

ETA: Books we are looking for are on the Amazon list. Most of these are requested by the kids themselves.

Librarian Warlord

Hee, I love pictures of my DH in his funny hat! What I really remember about that game is you and I, Sox, and how horrified we were to see our cousin D stand next to your Dad in the exact same stance his father and our fathers adopt whenever they get together. Yikes.

GC, I have forwarded your Press post to my old book club in CA.

Sorry about the loss of upstairs neighbor, vw. Upstairs neighbors who walk softly are hard to find.

I just glanced over the Amazon list, and I don't think the demographics of my library match those of the modern teenager with a complicated life. But the Judy Blume books amuse me, because I remember when Blume was not considered safe or proper for kids to be reading.

Now tagless for your comfort.

Oof. I got paged to the childcare center at the gym while I was in the shower. Owen was pitching a fit.

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

Go, lisah!!!

Dear Owen,

No pitching fits while mommy is nekkid. She has other things to do when she is nekkid.

Love,

ChiKat

not your mom's socks.

lisah - much job-ma! [plus curiosity - which good salad place - there seem to be a lot of off-campus-meetings going on around smalltimore... we might break up laughing if we're both in the same restaurant...]

ps - have you heard of DJ Action Pat ? he's doing something around the corner tomorrow - not sure if I trust Iris' godfather on this one...

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

Job~ma abounding to all and sundry in search mode.
