Katie, she
loved
that necklace. And obviously felt extremely comfortable and content with its wearer, too.
So, DJ, see you again this weekend, right? Right?
...whimper.
I read once that cancer used to be this thing you never talked about. Like, say, around the year 1900, if someone had cancer, their relatives would sometimes keep them up in the attic and keep it a secret.
More recently than 1900, even -- the 1939 Bette Davis film
Dark Victory
uses that as a plot point: she has some awful but unspecified fatal disease about which her doctor, with her family's collusion, refuses to tell her. She finds out anyway, goes wild with despair and grief, and (whitefonted in case there's anyone anywhere who hasn't seen this and has any interest in doing so, though spoilage might actually help as the plot is rather irritating and lack of spoilage may lead to furious yelling at the TV)
eventually settles down to marry the doctor and live out the rest of her days, all 90 or whatever of them, in domestic bliss.
She's certainly presented as a brave (if uncomfortably non-ladylike) soul for facing her death so forthrightly, but there's no indication that anyone -- performers, writer, director, any character but herself -- thinks there's anything ethically hinky about the doctor's decision.
AmyLiz, I want to read more about your great-grandmother too.
As opposed to my mother just coming home one day and saying "Yeah. I've got a tumor."(Was the secrecy some Evil Eye thing?)
Of course, I still freaked...tumor is one of those words that brings out the wig in a person, but Mom still sort of acts as if they radiated a damn persistent splinter or something, mostly. But the Elizabeth Edwards announcement gave us pause.
It's a good thing Mom told me because her oncologist's receptionist is a brain-dead inlaw who said over the phone that she was calling from Whatits Oncology and Associates which would have devastated me to find out by accident.
Mr. Jane has been informed that he needs to plan a vacation so I can take him out there.
Yes, yes he does. And I need to get right on that Xmas week New Orleans trip.
I GET MY TATTOO THIS WEEK!!! Wednesday, to be exact. Whee!!
So, DJ, see you again this weekend, right? Right?
I wish! In addition to not being in SF, I also have to work. Woes!
I can't even begin to tell y'all how lucky I feel to have gotten to visit and meet y'all!
I wish I could have been there.
What are you getting? Next time I'm up there I'm getting the Chartreuse logo, maybe on an ankle or something. Go green!
Oz is being very needy now that I'm home.
What are you getting?
Raven, which is going to cover my upper back. Don't worry, I have plenty more that I want to get.
I wish I could have been there.
How awesome would that have been? SO AWESOME.
Meant to squee and thank Jilli. I got the disk with the gothy gothy dress up pictures and YAY rings on loan that are just fantastic! They are gorgeous and I promise to take them out a lot and show them a fabulous time while they visit me.
Also my Pure Luxe samples all showed up so I am playing with different primers and finishing powders for the near future. Though not today because an allergy attack already took out an demi-elaborate makeup job today.
