Thanks, Anne. I've been doing some reading, and I do know not to mess with it too much because of the long-term gains. It looks like a Roth IRA at Vanguard with their Target Retirement Fund is the best bet to get started right now. I think contributing for 2006 will be a really good idea, especially because of the five-year rule that will magically hold from January 1, 2006, rather than right now. After that, I can start looking at regular investments and contributing for this year.

Spike's Bitches 35: We Got a History
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
Exactly, P-C. Since I made like $1000 last year, I opened a Roth IRA last week as part of doing my taxes.
I recently discovered that I hadn't signed up for employer contributions. So, I signed up AND they made it retroactive. Wooo!
Awesome, Vortex! We got it retroactive too. I had to do some calculations to figure out how much extra to contribute till the end of the year. It was fun.
I'm back from dropping off Emily and Tom. I declare Scola Fest: The San Francisco Leg to be a complete success. Drinks were quaffed, karaoke was sung, tasty food bits were consumed, dancing happened, drunken swaying happened, jokes and gossip happened, inappropriate touching happened, appropriate touching happened. We met Motorcycle Boy. Some karaoke girl got all up in Juliana's grill (though there were no coloraturas involved), but I think it was really UST.
It was a Very Fun Night, even if the karaoke was mostly gawdawful. (Whyfor did he massacre "You Never Even Called Me By My Name"? WHY?)

Hey San Francisco people, tiggy is in your city with family (and one family member is on a business trip, I think). She's looking for kid-friendly tourist-y places to visit Any suggestions? She's at the Hyatt Regency and says the area seems very business oriented.
One of my bosses just came up and said the funniest thing:
"Joe, I received a very nice compliment about you from [customer]. They said you were very good and helpful, even though you couldn't answer their questions at all."
I'm just imagining the conversation he had with [customer]: "Oh, and Joe was very nice, so helpful. Dumb as a bag of hammers, but..."
I was going to say I was impressed that you managed to be helpful while not answering their questions, but then I remembered you're a parent.

The experience in Nashville contradicts that. It can also be done by the entire bar bellowing along.

Fisherman's Wharf, The Exploratorium, Golden Gate Park - all of those are kid-friendly and tourist-y.
