Dawn: I think a date should be in a real fancy restaurant, then champagne at a night club with a floor show, then ballroom dancing. Joyce: Unfortunately, we're not dating in a movie from the thirties.

'Get It Done'

Spike's Bitches 35: We Got a History

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Me: "This Guy's In Love With You" by Herb Alpert, a musician whose stuff makes my skin crawl with inexplicable but visceral shame. Literally. He's listen-from-the-hall for me. Simon and Garfunkel's "Mrs. Robinson" was the week before, and then Herb came and stomped all over them with his embarrassing horn section or whatever awful stuff he did.

David: "Quarter to Three" by Gary U.S. Bonds (he narrowly missed "Moody River" by Pat Boone, lucky fellow).

Emmett: The Macarena.

Matilda: Justin Timberlake's "SexyBack."

Because books.

I'm "Happy Together" too! I think I knew that, actually.

Emmett: The Macarena.

Oh dear.

Well, Emmett has the same birthday as John Coltrane, Ray Charles and Bruce Springsteen, so he was due for some birthday musical dorkiness to even the score.

That triumverate nullifies "The Macarena" completely.

What is even happening?

Billy Don't Be a Hero
Love!

Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head.
Love! (and have particularly lovely childhood memories of this one, too)

This Guy's In Love With You
Love! (Sorry, JZ)

Crimson and Clover
Love! The use of this song on VM did as much to make me 'ship V/L as their first kiss (and the associated song) and the dance in season 2 (and Sway).

American Pie
Love!

Matilda: Justin Timberlake's "SexyBack."

Well, it's no Paxilback, but it'll do.

Put a little Seratonin in me.

Well, Emmett has the same birthday as John Coltrane, Ray Charles and Bruce Springsteen, so he was due for some birthday musical dorkiness to even the score.

I guess.

I dunno about "completely" -- have you heard the Macarena lately? Its dorkly evil-fu remains shockingly strong, even a decade later.

I do, too! Except, for some reason, according to my mom I sang it "Raindrops keep falling on my HIP..."

I love "Billy, Don't Be a Hero," too. I have it on my incredibly dorky 70s tape! That and "Brandy" and "Undercover Angel" and "Thunder Island" and "Shannon" and (of course, I mean really) "Seasons in the Sun."

And I'm not even ashamed a little bit.

Oh, Scott had She Loves You.

I think our Beatles/Stones combo may make us the couple to beat, in the birth music coolness sweeps. Now I have to see if I even recognize the songs for my kids' birthdays:

Ben (poor little lamb): One Sweet Day Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men

Julia (like the artist, can't remember the song): Doo Wop (That Thing) Lauryn Hill

Chris (for the win): Maria Maria Santana featuring The Product G&B

cereal...

Amy, I don't recognize "Thunder Island" and "Shannon" but am madly in love with the rest of the songs.

I keep waiting to see who had The Night Chicago Died.

Oh, "The Night Chicago Died" is on my tape, too!

You know "Thunder Island," or you would if you heard it. "...making love, OUT on THUNDER island...da da DA da da DA, DADA..."

"Shannon" was the song about the dog who died. "...she drifted off to sea..." Sappy, absurd, and EXCELLENT.

Let's see:

Jake -- "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You," Bryan Adams

Ben -- "Un-Break My Heart," Toni Braxton

Sara -- "Baby Boy," Beyonce featuring Sean Paul

Stephen -- "Mrs. Brown, You've Got a Lovely Daughter," Herman's Hermits
