I was likewise amused by the Gambit tirade, particularly because he is the all-time favorite X-Man of one of my best friends. I never thought that any part of Gambit was particularly uncool or chick-flicky, really. In fact, the first few story arcs of his solo series were pretty slick. I will admit, however, that his power is one of those mutations that are ridiculously deus ex. The con man has a power that happens to relate perfectly to the use of playing cards? You don't say! He's by no means the worst offender in that category, though (Banshee kind of does suck).

I do remember when Whistler made it into the crawlspaces toward the end of Blade II, I thought to myself "Did none of the vampires ever watch a Die Hard movie? Forget Blade, now they're REALLY screwed!"

Exactly. He can and does charge up various objects. Cards are just light-weight and easy to carry. I mean, sure they were chosen for the "coolness factor", but they make a good deal of logical sense. How many other things can you carry 52 of in a pocket and still throw a decent distance.

I think I about the money I'm going to spend collecting the DCAU on DVD and it makes me pause a bit, but it will be done eventually. So far I've only got BTAS 1, BB 1 and JL 1. I may skip getting STAS altogether, as it was my least favorite of the bunch.
I'm collecting the entire DCAU. So far I have:
- BTAS vols 1-4
- STAS vols 1-2
- BB vol 1
- JL vol 1
- Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, Subzero, and Mystery of the Batwoman
- Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker
Ooh, forgot I bought Mask of the Phantasm ages ago. Still my favorite Batman movie. Batman Begins is 2nd.
Hard to believe the last episode is this Saturday. I ahemed all the episodes from this season after CN put it on hiatus, but never got that one. I guess I was trying to put off the end as long as possible.
Just had the chance to read Civil War #1.
They've already lost me on Tony Stark's characterization for this. While I can see him being behind the legislation in general as a greater good/public responsibility issue, he shouldn't be blind or naive about the possibility of government mishandling in its execution of the law. When Captain frickin' America immediately runs afoul of the U.S. government over a law that hasn't even been passed yet, it's a good idea to reconsider your stance rather than declaring him a rogue instigator off the bat and rounding up a posse to bring him in.
Also,
lotsa luck maintaining surveillance on all the dissenting superheroes if Dr. Strange is siding with them. I was gratified to see that Stephen was quite cranky about the "work for us or go to prison" aspect
