That pretty much sums it up, in a National Geographic/Cliff Notes kind of way. Hal Jordan was considered by many to be the standard by which a Green Lantern (and hero) was defined. So his fall was taken espeically hard by many in the DCU.

Also, Guy Gardner was a veeeery intersting GL as well.

I loved the early '90s JLA when Guy Gardner got all up in Batman's face, challenging him to go mano a mano. Bats calmly ignored Guy's flagrant display of testosterone, until Guy made the (incredibly stupid) mistake of saying "I'll even take the ring off," and took off the ring.

The second the ring was off Guy's finger, Bats dropped him with one punch.

Guy woke up half a day later, went looking for the ring under a desk, and accidentally stood up while under there, whacking his head again.

When he woke up, he was a nice guy. This lasted for quite a while, until he got whacked in the head again when Lobo popped into the JLA headquarters through a boom tube, and when he woke up again, he was back to his old jerkass self.

Funny, funny shit.

I think they went overboard with Guy's new disposition. When Captain Marvel is getting annoyed with how saccharine a character has become, the joke's gone on too long.

Yeah, the joke went on a little too long. Really, the funniest part of it was how quickly Bats laid him out after the ring came off.

I must have missed that story. J'onn and Dr. Fate are the only League members I can recall switching genders.

Back when Linda Strauss briefly became Dr. Fate, Beatriz' catty comments were the funniest things in the title.
