I skipped the last 600 or so posts (my wireless card and laptop are having a spat) so I apologize if the following is repeated information.
tommyrot, I saw the FBI STOP RAPING MY WIFE dude on Daley Plaza this afternoon and did a little googling. Scroll down for a conversation with Farhad. The Chicagoist link in that story doesn't really clarify anything but it is a rather bizarre read. It's interesting that some people believe that it's performance art, a psychological experiment or potentially, viral marketing. Photos from Chicago, NY, and DC.
That guy's been there for years - I don't think I buy the marketing or performace art idea.
I don't think the Tivo will allow you to actually record without the subscription, though I think you can still pause. I know when my expiration date on my credit card changed once and I accidentally let the subscription lapse there was only very limited functionality.
I can't imagine why you would give away a lifetime subcription box though.
Yeah, TiVo tightened up the requirements for a subscription quite a ways back -- it used to give you all sorts of annoying warnings but went ahead and let you manually schedule recording by time and date, but it was as unlabeled as any VCR tape, just time and date.
On the other hand, the TiVo subscription includes more information in a handy form than a TV Guide subscription would supply. I'd say buy a month or two of the TiVo sub (I think it's available a la carte, because they know some potential subscribers don't want to commit at first) and give it a whirl, because the convenience will turn out to be worth it.
And macbelle will be so happy to have his kids programs available when he feels like watching them!
Journey is playing a cube over. We just had Funky Moose, and now it's the "touched and went our separate ways" one.
The scientific basis for retrocausality.
Yeah, I'm gonna take a stand and say I'm against this. Time needs an arrow! You hear that, laws of physics????
I think Colbert just showed a picture of Angel.
Squee!
Oh, I am dumb--I didn't realize you meant a subscription for the Tivo service, msbelle. Do listen to Theodosia.
The coffee needs to kick in. I need to make dinner plans, finish a story, and oh yeah, actually do my job while I'm at work today.
I don't think I buy the marketing or performace art idea.
I don't either. I just think he's disturbed. I do wonder what kind of nest egg he's got to be able to do this for 2 years (or longer) and travel to NY and DC.
And I'm not sure how to feel about the fact that he's got a larger web presence than I do.
