Natter Five-O: Book 'Em, Danno.

I had cookies and ice cream, and before that I made garlic rice with pine nuts (and bell peppers and onion and asparagus) and a melon & jicama salad. So I am done being shrift's food twin for the day, but it was yum. I did not defrost the banana bread, though. It is still in the freezer so I can have it when I come home.
Now I need to freaking sleep sometime before four in the morning so I can get up, prep a recording session, go to church, hold the recording session, drive to New Mexico and have a week of classes, drive to Kansas and beg for money, drive home and immediately teach private lessons. Then collapse.
Sick sick or pregnancy sick?
Cindy, sick sick. I have been coughing like crazy for over a week. My ribs are actually incredibly sore and if I pop my sternum, I'm going to be pissed. My ob, though, is the mostly pragmatic type. She said I don't have pneumonia, but nor is she convinced I have a sinus infection. She prescribed cough syrup with codeine. I know that is the horror of most pregnant people, many of whom in my life have shouted, "you can't take medicine!" But actually, I can't sleep either, so better limited codeine and more rest.
Anyhow I have two sestinas to write for my next poetry class (ARGH) and I was told I need to turn in my thesis proposal and have it approved before the end of summer so I can take a leave of absence in peace. Which means, I go back to grad school tomorrow in order to try to crank this out.
Sigh.
Did I share my banana bread here last weekend? Kind of made up a recipe, and it was soooo good. Blueberry almond. (And also fat-free, high fiber, pretty low sugar, as it turned out. Though I didn't tell that to the people at work when I brought it in, with the exception of the one person I know is doing WW.) In my lj (brendalu) if anyone wants.
It sounded so good, brenda. Mmmm.
It really was. It didn't have that heavy texture that fat-free baked goods sometimes have, and the almond added a really interesting note. And it was entirely from things I had on hand - TJs frozen berries, some bananas I didn't get around to, etc.
My mom used to do a lemon poundcake and drizzle on top some lemon juice mixed with white sugar - not quite a glaze, just a little kick on top. I think I'll try to do that the next time I make this. But either way, it seriously rocked. I have kind of a knack for freestyle baking.
Brenda, that does sound delicious. Homemade bread sounds like such a dream right now.
Ho-kay. Flipping around channels. Some alien fire creature taking over people apparently? And so far Nick Brendon plus Chakotay from Voyager.
My bread turned out okay, although the second proofing sort of collapsed. Not sure if that was overgrowth due to lack of salt, or because the dough structure with the mixed flour couldn't support it. Or, of course, both.
I really don't want to go to krav tomorrow. I can't see myself not going, because I'm enough of an automaton to ignore fickle things like moods, but I really don't want six more hours of training.
But hey. At least six hours of the day are spoken for.
My stranger encounter today - anyone familiar with a children's book series about a dog named Carl? We were out walking and this family with a toddler were coming the other way and the little girl saw Lucy and started screaming CARL CARL CARL CARL!!!
Huh. My sister has a Rotweiller named Lucy, too. [link]
